Subject: Quotations QUIZ - some songs From: Nigel Parsons Date: 30 Oct 13 - 10:09 AM Another quiz, There are some songs in this one, including Q2, so I'm posting this 'above the line' (There's a Nov 1st quiz below the line) As usual with my quizzes, Please do not post answers in this thread to allow others to see it without spoiling the fun. Admittedly, some of this is Anglo-centric. Please feel free to re-use the quiz elsewhere. I'm happy to see comments here & claims of scores: I'm looking for the speaker (person/actor/character) or the book / event/ film. While I'm happy to accept the name of a film rather than the actual character/actor, an answer which simply says "Shakespeare" would not be enough! I may have deliberately included misquotes, so answers of "Misquote" will be accepted if that is the case. If they're all misquotes then blame my typing! 1 "Play it again, Sam" 2 "Happy birthday, Mr President" 3 " If you cut me down, I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine." 4 "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times" 5 "A census taker tried to quantify me once. I ate his liver with some fava beans and a big Amarone" 6 " I have only one thing to say: 'You turn [U-turn] if you want to. The lady's not for turning." 7 "one day this nation will rise up and live up to its creed, 'We hold these truths to be self evident: that all men are created equal.' I have a dream" 8 "To die will be an awfully big adventure." 9 "Beam me up, Scotty" 10 "Toto, I have a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore." 11 "If music be the food of love, play on; Give me excess of it, that, surfeiting, The appetite may sicken, and so die." 12 "Outside of a dog, a book is a man's best friend. Inside of a dog it's too dark to read." 13 "History will be kind to me for I intend to write it." 14 "My momma always said, 'Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.'" 15 "Oh, no, it wasn't the airplanes. It was Beauty killed the Beast" 16 "It does not mean, of course, that the pound here in Britain, in your pocket or purse or in your bank, has been devalued. " 17 "Friends, Romans, Countrymen, lend me your ears" 18 "Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it in for me!" 19 "Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn." 20 And,finally, to sum up the page, "There are more questions than answers" |
