I just typed this out today to show to my aunt. I wanted to make sure I had the words correct since I was the only one that remembered the entire song. I decided to Google it to see if there was an author and I found your request. I am 56 and grew up with my great aunt singing this song. Hope it brings back happy memories for you!

The story I tell of the burglar bold who went to rob a house.
He opened the door and in he crept as quietly as a mouse.

He looked for a place to hide himself until the folks were sleep,
And so he crawled under a big brass bed and said, "Now for me little sneak."

At half past ten, the old maid came in. "I am so tired," she said.
And thinking all was right that night, she never looked under the bed.

She pulled off her leg and her big glass eye and the wig from off her head.
The burglar nearly had ninety fits as he looked from under the bed.

From under the bed the burglar crept. he was a total wreck.
The old maid wasn't asleep at all and she grabbed him by the neck.

She never hollered or screamed a bit, was just as cool as a clam.
Smiling she said, "The Lord be praised! At last I've found a man."

She held him so tight by the back of the neck. He never had chance to scoot.
He looked at the wig and the big glass eye and said, "Madame, for God's sake, shoot."

My father used to sing this to me when I was a little boy; I am 65.

The words were sligtly different, e.g.

A story's told of a burglar bold who wanted to rob a house..

Another line went:

He thought of all the money he'd get as under the bed he lay,
but in the night he saw a sight that made his hair turn grey.

I don't think my dad had the last part of the song so I appreciate your posting it..
