Subject: RE: Peter Knight leaving Steeleye! From: GUEST,Phil Cooper on Spouse's laptop Date: 16 Nov 13 - 08:42 AM Peter Knight left once before in the mid-'70's. The group survived a lot of major players leaving at one time or another. |

Subject: RE: Peter Knight leaving Steeleye! From: Uncle Tone Date: 16 Nov 13 - 05:33 AM There must come a point when a long-serving band member finds there is nothing else to add. It's all been done already, several times over. Time to let the tribute bands have a go. guess Steeleye will keep going as long as Maddy wants it to. Her voice makes the band. The instrumentals and arrangements are easily reproduced nowadays by our younger competent players. I'm sure Peter will continue with his other work. Like Swarb, I doubt that he will give up fiddling. It's in the blood. His Dad, Frank was no mean fiddler either. Used to wow us at the old Steamerfolk Club in St Albans half a lifetime ago. Fond memories. Tone |

Subject: Peter Knight leaving Steeleye! From: Claire M Date: 15 Nov 13 - 09:51 AM Hiya, Spanner I was renamed. SS rekindled my love of old-fashioned things, slipping into Old English occasionally, wearing funny dresses to go to weird things in fields etc. it has brought forth much teasing. To me as a child, Maddy Prior was a sort of confidante, who would block out my problems w/ her voice; said funny language was spells she taught me which I tried to copy as I wore my floaty dresses. I was a strange child. I now dabble in this kind of thing for real. Fond memories of gigs, both SS & solo, where she danced all round me; she ☺ in my direction, almost knocking me backwards; no more of that anymore. Those gigs made me find out stuff about myself I didn't even know. Such news, which has made me desperately sad & made the bottom fall out of my world, will be likely to please my flatmates. Important member leaving usually = end of band. Such is the problem w/ young[er] people liking older bands, good as they might be. Oh, SS, I got teary-eyed just thinking of you – now trying to come to terms by playing everything but. |
