Stories from 30/40/50's about local events/happenings. A historical Archive

stories.stroudfm.co.uk

The website uses Wordpress (3.7.1) and the audio player I installed seems to rely on Flash. I am getting reports of weird effects on some browsers.
Would anyone care to have a go playing several clips (reports suggest a second clip may not behave). Various browsers.

Your reward is listening to a salacious (well amusing) story or two about ............ well they are interesting.

A bit about what browser/plug-ins used would help too.

I'm seeing no playable links on the "interviews from shows" page, either on the iMac running OSX 10.7.5 or on the iPad using iOS 7. I was able to play something from the "listen again" tab on the main Stroud FM site however.

No playable links here (FF 3.6 on MacOS X 10.4).

If Soundcloud and Tobar an Dualchais can make their stuff audible to me, I don't see why anybody else shouldn't be able to. Ditch the Flash and do it their way.

Are you talking about the clips under 'Contributors'?
They seem to work OK using Chrome.
The next tab only says

"interviews from shows

These are selected interviews from our programmes"

Which one did you want us to test?

A friends son who used to play in a band I called with can top the 'courting couples clothes in the mower' - he had a holiday job driving a combine-harvester and found a body.

All the clips play smoothly here. I tried pausing one part-way through and playing another - OK.

I'm using Firefox 25.0.1 on Linux with the Shockwave Flash plugin v 11,2,202,310.

I did notice that on the Canal Trust clip there was a progress bar above. This didn't show any change, the play/pause button was OK but the mute button did nothing except change the indicated volume level - I could still listen.

I have added notes where there is no audio. The pages are awaiting content.
I have had reports from a lass who is giving-up on Micro$oft in April (XP and all that). Her experience relates to weird effects on Chrome. Something about second attempt at playing another audio refusing.

I found that if you don't accept (Activate) Flash or disable it, the player I use thinks Flash is present and just does nothing. I have disabled it and the player(s) default to HTML5. That should cover the ground. But I am looking for help to find browser.plug-in/OS combos that might cause problems.

There is a second player loaded which is more instructive see Canal Trust Volunteers page

Still looking to tech feedback. The content is what it is. You have to grab what you can in this kind of project.

All the player widgets on the Canal Trust site work with my browser, but the "play" arrow on the HTML5 one is invisible, I had to guess where it was.

I can't work out what he says in the last sentence though - "rusted up" doesn't sound plausible, "rested up" is closer to the sound but makes even less sense.

Confirmed - all 4 play buttons work for me.

Jack - it is "rusted up" - he's talking about the twisted steel girder after the fire and says it rusted up quite quickly. Not surprising - the fire would have removed any protective scale or paint and bare steel rusts in days in that clean condition.

I have added a search page based on HTML5 so older browsers will not cope. some say Firefox 21 onwards (eg) copes, but searching for a comparison chart is not revealing which browsers &/or version support <button> and <audio> TAGs
Any help would be instructive.

if you use the test page - try looking for "courting" and click the display button - they have possibly more general (& salacious in some instances) interest.

Next up I will venture to the HTML5 (& drop down to Flash if necessary) player. Meanwhile TIA for any comment.

unfortunately, using an android system searchs for a single term (maid, or green, or valley, or town, or sh!t) secure no returns

currently there are 175 ish tracks (10 more today), the database includes tags not found in the visible text. The lexicon & LUT for images etc is 31K, the JavaScript driving it is 12K - all my own programming. Hence the need for peeps to try breaking it for me.
Gargoyle - your miniscule text hints that here are no entries for "town" - there is one today. Goggle Chrome (portable) "green" or "town" do now show a single result each, as does Opera (portable) both on PC not Android. But thanx 4 the heads-up

"courting" is still the best search term for those not particularly interested in the minutia of "Stroud long ago". "canal" has one or two stories of general interest amongst the throng.

You have done a fine job of collecting material.

What did you use for micrlphones? It was nice to bear the fade-in and out of birdcalls in the background on some.

Project is well done.

~ 35 hits on the word " young"
~ Some searches retuned "Na:no" by the play bar
~ Browser (android, "silk" Amazon Kindle Fire crashed sveral times...Mudcat did too)other sites in France worked fine.

Very Worthy Project.

Also, what sound editing software?
