Hi,

Does anyone have the lyric's for Joe Crookston's Caitlin At The Window. It's a beautiful song and I want to sing it at an open mike.

Thanks,

Alan

I heard this on Spotify and transcribed it; however, I am not satisfied with line 2, which doesn't make sense to me.

CAITLIN AT THE WINDOW
As recorded by Joe Crookston on "Darkling & the BlueBird Jubilee" (2011)

I sailed you home across the sea,
Out the hall(?) and poetry,
We buried you down in the autumn chill,
Killin' time here at home while my love sleeps in the churchyard on the hill,
Killin' time here at home while my love sleeps in the churchyard on the hill.

I loved you hard; you drew me in.
You drove me mad with all your demons within.
Now I rest my elbows on the windowsill,
Killin' time here at home while my love sleeps in the churchyard on the hill,
Killin' time here at home while my love sleeps in the churchyard on the hill.

Sometimes I curse you beneath that cross.
It wasn't just mine but the whole world's loss.
Someday I'll lie beside you, but for now I'm still
Killin' time here at home while my love sleeps in the churchyard on the hill,
Killin' time here at home while my love sleeps in the churchyard on the hill.

Thanks Jim. I'll have to try and figure out that second line. You're right, it doesn't seem to work that way. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

The second line is "alcohol and poetry."

Both Caitlin and Dylan Thomas, who the song is written about had a notoriously stormy marriage fueled by both being alcoholics and Dylan having many mistresses.

Yes, "Alcohol and poetry" is clearly heard when the first verse is repeated at the end.

I hadn't heard of Joe Crookston until I started working on the Rise Again songbook. We included his "Good Luck John," which is a great song. We also have his "Fall Down as the Rain" and "Bird by Bird" in the book but I haven't learned them yet. You can hear John and Caitlin here:
