Subject: BS: My addiction is... From: gnu Date: 25 Nov 13 - 02:54 PM Nuts. Top of the list, peanuts. If there are peanuts in the house, the only time I can resist them is when I have eaten them all. Soooo, new rule. No nuts, except me, allowed in my house. Peanut butter is, of course, allowed as it is as water... required to sustain life itself. |
Subject: RE: BS: My addiction is... From: Stilly River Sage Date: 25 Nov 13 - 02:59 PM Chocolate. I'm somewhat allergic to it so I don't have it in the house now, but when it was here, I kept going back to nibble until it was all gone. :-( SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: My addiction is... From: Bill D Date: 25 Nov 13 - 04:59 PM Cashews... you may have my peanuts if there are cashews around. If they are "honey-roasted" I hide them from everyone else. Then I eat them while nibbling on dark chocolate... (right now, 72%) I quit eating cashews when my tummy tells me there's danger ahead. When I don't need anything to eat, I nibble on dark chocolate while sipping Single malt scotch. I'm not sure it qualifies as an 'addiction', as I don't crave it everyday, but it sure is a pleasure. |

Subject: RE: BS: My addiction is... From: GUEST, Ebbie Date: 26 Nov 13 - 01:36 AM Not yet an addiction, but it is beginning to worry me: In the last 6/8 months I've gotten into water color painting, alongside sketching (which I have always liked doing). After music, it has become my favorite activity and, truthfully, I have begun to think that I'm developing grandiose illusions of my ability. On the one hand, I recognize clearly that most of my efforts are, at best, mediocre and that only once in awhile do I produce a keeper. When it happens, I am inordinately pleased. I find myself thinking of getting frames for them and putting them on my walls. Would that be silly? An indication of advanced age's delusions? Would people, including friends, see them and go away, troubled, telling each other, 'Lately, she is really losing it'? My oldest brother has always jumped on hobby horses and ridden away madly. One after another He has become a bit of a chuckle over the years. It scares me to think that I may be exhibiting some of the same behavior. sheesh Excuse my insecurities. It must be the kind of day I am having. |

Subject: RE: BS: My addiction is... From: MGM·Lion Date: 26 Nov 13 - 05:11 AM Eliza: I have always thought that the one essential rule as to what pix one puts on one's walls is nothing but that they must be ones one enjoys looking at regularly. & NOTHING ELSE. It is one of those things in which whatever may be the opinions of others (who don't have to live with them) should have no standing whatever. So hang your watercolours: & hang what anyone else might say about it! Luv ~M~ |

Mrs Musket is a food fascist and tells me she is looking after me so they only enter our kitchen when she is away seeing her mother. Crafty Musket says he can't go with her because of the dog. In actual fact it's the fish fingers sandwiches. Eliza. We're too straight laced and posh up here to ever contemplate anything as crude as crumpet! I love smearing butter over hot pikelets though....... |

Subject: RE: BS: My addiction is... From: GUEST,Eliza Date: 26 Nov 13 - 10:25 AM Pikelets, schmikelets, Musket. As long as it's dripping with butter, it doesn't much matter! Thank goodness my husband is not a food fascist; he's worse than me for liking his food. But as he was half-starved before he came to UK, and is as fit as a flea and not a bit fat, I'd say his diet here is fine. His current 'addiction' is stollen, being sold on the Christmas shelves at the moment. He can't get enough of it. I haven't the heart to tell him it contains rum. |
Subject: RE: BS: My addiction is... From: Bill D Date: 26 Nov 13 - 10:45 AM Ebbie... remember Grandma Moses! She started painting in her 70s and did quite well. (well... remember Van Gogh, also... But the really important thing to remember is my favorite definition of "artist" An artist is someone who produces a supply, whether or not there is any demand. My wife, Rita, MUST draw, paint, sketch...etc. She has done it since she was young and has done charcoal, oils, watercolors, pen & ink,...plus printmaking. Now she does pyrography that is then painted on slices of Tagua nuts. So... succumb to your urges! Paint'em! Juneau has an infinite supply of subjects. |
Subject: RE: BS: My addiction is... From: Pete Jennings Date: 26 Nov 13 - 11:43 AM Ebbie, I get most of my frames from the local charity shop. Some of them need a bit of cleaning and restoration but they're cheap and it's easier than making 'em (which I do as well). The pictures in them go into the bin, sorry, the recycling box. |

Subject: RE: BS: My addiction is... From: Claire M Date: 28 Nov 13 - 03:09 PM Hiya, I'd love to do that DtG. Where are these mediaeval things??. Hmm; my addiction. Music. Blues particularly. Anything to do w/ sf & f – more the fantasy part. Reading, writing, watching it. I always wanted to live in a hut in a forest somewhere, wanted to be a witch, & had more imaginary friends than I could keep track of. If there's a book that could double up as a doorstep, w/ a dragon on it somewhere it's likely to be mine. Have box full of earrings w/ weird symbols on, & tend to come out w/ things like "avaunt ye now thou senseless thing" It does worry me, even though it's gone on too long. The Consort supports me as long as he doesn't have to go too, but I really wish I could find others who enjoy this type of thing. Looks like I have now – any rec's for mediaeval fiction ?? |

Subject: RE: BS: My addiction is... From: Claire M Date: 01 Dec 13 - 04:03 PM Hiya, It is indeed sci-fi & fantasy, gnu! My main addiction is Steeleye Span – love of SS led to love of all the other stuff I mentioned. It's like I *need* to hear said band. Grew up in awe of Maddy Prior, frightened of her, & perhaps a lil bit in love w/ her – a combination of all 3. Sadly I think my addiction may have to come to its end soon. |
Subject: RE: BS: My addiction is... From: Amos Date: 01 Dec 13 - 07:05 PM Dark chocolate is definitely a major temptress. The deep-tissue addictions are, of course, air, water, food and reasonable temperatures. Chemically, aside from above, caffeine and nicotine are definite items to be reckoned with. And reckoning with them I am. Slowly but surely. |
Subject: RE: BS: My addiction is...
