Subject: Help: Valuing a fiddle bow
From: GUEST,Ed
Date: 29 Nov 13 - 12:11 PM

Hi,

I do some voluntary work in a charity shop. Recently we had a violin bow donated.

Apart from the fact that such things can be anything from very cheap to mind-bogglingly expensive (I very much doubt that it's the latter), I know absolutely nothing about them.

Can anyone give me any pointers in terms of determining what we should sell it for? (I'm in the UK)

Thanks, Ed

Try the folk at Maestronet. There are a number of members in the UK. They'll want to see specific photos, since even a rough valuation is impossible otherwise.

If you give a location there might be someone in the area to alue it.

Thank you, ladies.

I think that I'll advise putting £5 on it as I really don't know.

Buxton, for what it's worth.

Wood, carbon fibre, pernambuco, fibreglass hair, horsehair, warped, good camber, good balance, frog is? FAR FAR too many things to just say it's worth £5. Get it evaluated by at least a low end pawn broker if not a luthier

If its got a good amount of hair ( about 1/3 of an inch wide ) try £20 as it costs about that much to re - hair a bow. Most fiddle players like to carry a spare bow just in case.

PS still worth getting it valued.
