The good news is that work on repairing the Clutha is about to start, although Alan Crossan is in need of ideas on what might work - so if you are committted and local, go see him.
The roof, incidentally, was partly supported by a bottle of Southern Comfort on the top shelf.
So, a thought: why don't you get some acts together to celebrate his reopening?

Given the interim AAIB report was issued a year ago, I don't see where there can be any doubt on causation, "your copper chopper fell on us". What other case can there be? Because the SDP didn't repeal the Law of Gravity? Because Bond didn't add a copter parachute? Because whoever supplied the fuel didn't supply an instant fuel-up pack?
From the legal viewpoint, the question of delegation of responsibility to maintain the helicopter and any consequential distribution of the claim, as you suggest, is utterly irrelevant to any third party: the Law of Agency applies, and under that, whichever part of the Bond empire was responsible for maintenance is considered to be a part of the Police in this respect. If they have a dispute between them, they can sort that out between themselves later.

Heard all that on TV the other day. I was only suggesting/speculating that any restoration might have to wait until the insurers were satisfied as to causation, and therefore any apportioning of liability, before making any settlement with the owners. I had no such cynical, even sinister, thoughts akin to Rahere's.

No "Black Box" Flight Recorders required for this type of aircraft

76kg of fuel in the main tank and indications show that low fuel warnings were displayed for both engines at the time of the crash.

Both engines "flamed out" simultaneously and the aircraft was heading back to its base located a few miles away near the Glasgow Transport Museum.

Both engines, main rotor and tail "Fenestron" rotor blades were not turning at the moment of impact.

"The report said investigations were continuing: "In particular, the investigation will seek to determine why a situation arose that led to both the helicopter's engines flaming out when 76kg of fuel remained in the fuel tank group, why no emergency radio transmission was received from the pilot and why, following the double engine failure, an autorotative descent and flare recovery was not achieved."

As the helicopter was on approach for landing altitude could have been a problem. The pilot's first actions would to attempt to restart the engines and then to achieve autorotation having failed to restart the engines under such circumstances the pilot would have to:

- Firstly disengage the gear box to allow the main rotor to spin freely
- Collective Pitch neutral on the main rotor
- Hold heading with pedals
- Hold nose in level flight on Cyclic

Rate of descent will be something in the order of under 2,000 ft per minute and that roughly determines the amount of time you have to recover the situation. Judging by the condition of the helicopter as it was photographed being lifted from the pub then I do not believe that the pilot had the necessary altitude at the time to successfully complete either engine restart or achieve autorotative state.

As everything would appear to have been OK with the fuel system itself (i.e. piping, warning systems and pumps) then that could mean that there might have been impurities in the fuel laying at the bottom of the tanks that caused the engines to "flame out", but that I would have thought would have been easily detected by accident investigators (Fuel is normally checked for impurities before refuelling).

Pubs are closing in their thousands all over the UK - It would not surprise me in the least if the Clutha site is redeveloped or restored - that I think would be up to the owners - don't see where speculators slipping backhanders comes into the equation.

Hm, I don't think there's much doubt that what dropped on the place had "Police" painted all over it and was crewed by Police officers. The rest is surely their concern: quibbling about irrelevancies is of course the ultimate refuge of the irresponsible, and irresponsible policing is something we've seen quite a bit of, as power has corrupted rather too much. The appropriate part of the Bond enpire who were responsible for maintaining it, or not, are only Agents ;)
Or is this Clutha Farewell as some property speculator slips backhanders somewhere until the owners give up and it can become another anonymous glass monolith?

The air accident report only came out days ago, and the cause of double engine failure in the helicopter is as yet undetermined. Maybe that has something to do with why rebuilding/restoration has not yet started?
