This has some info about notated repertoire:

http://www.encyclopediaofukraine.com/display.asp?linkpath=pages\C\H\Chumaksongs.htm

Searching for the cheapest option for what appears to be the standard collection produces this rather discouraging result:

http://used.addall.com/SuperRare/RefineRare.fcgi?id=160928101242944457

(don't even think about trying Amazon). This has another copy but I don't know what the currency unit is:

Searching for the appropriate Ukrainian words produces a fair few results, often with the same title words being used for clearly different books, and nothing you can buy. I can ask a friend who's lived in the Ukraine for a while and is well into Ukrainian culture (though his thing is mainly klezmer fiddle).

Traditionally the instrument was only played by blind musicians (kobzars) so there shouldn't be any sheet music.

I have several Ukrainian CD's and am desperate to find some sheet music. I bought 2-3 music books from Kiev...on WEB but can't understand the notation.
I have been onto the Mudders site several years ago when I trying to find out how to tune my 61 string, Concert quality, 7 switches traditional Ukrainian folk harp...Bandura.It has 12 bass strings and 49 treble and a more beautiful instrument I have never heard.
You can find them on youtube, but don't type in Bandura! There is a psychologist, psychiatrist, psychopath or something like that, who has published many pamphlets so avoid them by typing traditional Ukrainian folk harp bandura.

I bought a hard case and other stuff for it from Yaroslav, Post Horse [posthobby@gmail.com] I fear he did not have any individual sheet music as I sent him a list of songs from my CDs and have asked him if he had any of them, but no..but give him a try.

I met some Slovaks from a neighbouring Country at the Swanage FF and their translator is trying to get some sheet music from a good musician with them...fingers crossed....I gave him a list.
BW Mike Dowding...have been practicing seriously for about 1 yr now and think I'm getting on OK....played it out for 1st time at Wimborne FF in June.

"Solovey, ptashechka" - does that help? Google treats it more or less equivalently.

The OP seems to be one of the many "one hit wonders" who do not know how Mudcat works and probably never look at their threads again. Never mind; they are welcome to point us to music and performers some of us may miss otherwise. I am not a particular fan of soldiers' songs, but this one is not too bad.

Suggestion to GUEST.

Never put your email on an open thread. And if you have, do something to make sure it gets removed ASAP.

Translated is fair enough, but transliterated is convenient too, when it comes to Cyrillic Script ( or Arabic, Japanese etc).

It is one of the best-known Russian songs; just google "Соловей, пташечка" (translating "Nightingale, little bird" - sounds unlikely for a marching song of bragging soldiers, but that's Russia!).

Now for the bad news: many different versions exist, differing not only in their tunes and lyrics, but also in their verse schemes. I did not find any that comes close to the one recorded by Kipnis.

Can anyone tell me where to find the sheet music for the Russian/Ukrainian "The Soldier's Song" as recorded so memorably by the Ukrainian bass Alexander Kipnis? My email is waltercrns@gmail.com
