Subject: December Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 13 Dec 13 - 10:50 AM Since I have to fly to Milwaukee early tomorrow morning for my mother's funeral on Monday, I figured I'd better get this posted before I leave. I probably will have access through my sister's computer, but I don't know how much time I will have. Weather permitting, I will be back not only for the December Monthly Shanty, Forebitter, Ballad, and Annual Seasonal Song Session on Saturday, December 21st at The Press Room in Portsmouth, NH from 3:30 to 7:30 PM, but for the regular weekly session the night before. -And it looks as if we've missed the PMAC kids this year, so we won't have that competition upstairs. This annual sea and seasonal song session usually brings out a lot of material not sung the rest of the year. We'll definitely have to do Brian Chadburne's "Shopping Shanty" and, I'm sure, Charlie has a few seasonal songs about traditional Maine weather, etc. Please keep good thoughts for decent flying weather so I can get back safely for the sessions! Subject: RE: December Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: Jeri Date: 17 Dec 13 - 03:24 PM Accuweather says "a couple of afternoon showers". As in rain. And 39°F. Saturday, it's supposed to be 40°F--but drizzly. Summer! |

Subject: RE: December Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 20 Dec 13 - 02:58 PM I'm home! Uneventful flights and actually got to see something from the descent to Baltimore until almost the descent to Manchester. More snow here at home than in Milwaukee, but it's been plowed, my deck shovelled and sanded. See everyone tomorrow -- it's supposed to be a balmy 46 degrees and, though I know crews of linemen are on standby (my ride home from the airport is a project manager with a utility company) in case the temps drop and ice results, I sincerely hope they stay above the freezing level even at night. (And, according to AccuWeather, they will.) Linn |

Subject: RE: December Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 21 Dec 13 - 11:49 AM I'm late off the mark, but today will be a good opportunity for me to sing Brian Chadbourne's "shopping shanty", Santa Come Back (to the tune of Paddy Lay Back) at least once this season. I think there were fewer days between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year. Maybe it's just that my whole sense of time has been screwed up since Tom's last hospitalization and death. Linn |
Subject: RE: December Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: ranger1 Date: 21 Dec 13 - 12:12 PM No, Linn, there were fewer days in between. I, alas, will not be there. I seem to have picked up some sort of bug and I am not willing to share it around. |
Subject: RE: December Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: Bat Goddess Date: 23 Dec 13 - 04:40 PM Missed you, Tami, but you made the right decision -- hope you're feeling better. My sense of timing or something must still have been off, though, because instead of getting to the Press Room around 3 p.m. it was closer to 3:40...so not only was I not the first there to get set up, but the drummer with the lunch time jazz hadn't packed up yet. Arghh. I'd thought I had factored in enough time for a quick errand (right; the weekend before Christmas) and park (right; what was I thinking?), not to mention the traffic between the malls and The Press Room. Ah well. It worked out okay. Didn't post any of this yesterday because a) of all, Mudcat was down, and b) of all, I was taking a pajama day and being antisocial. The crew was me (Linn Schulz aka Bat Goddess), Ernie Pigeon (NbptErnie), Emery Hutchins, Dianne Lavoie, Jeri, Steve Smith, Nicole Hourihan, Bruce Pingree (general manager of The Press Room), Bill Lehrman and Carol Pierson, Charlie Ipcar (Charley Noble) and Judy Barrows (JudyB), Debbie (formerly Hoar; not sure of her last name now), Gina and Bill Dunlap, Rita Pomerleau and Mike, Barbara Benn, Justine Donovan, and Carol Coronis. Dave Hallowell was there for about two minutes and then disappeared... (was it something I said?!?) Oh, and a nice lady named Michelle who said she'd been to the session before but not for a long time. 1. Squid Jigging Ground - Ernie Pigeon 2. Gower Wassail - Dianne Lavoie 3. Snowfall - Ernie 4. Subject: RE: December Press Room (NH) Shanty Sing From: GUEST,Don Hale Date: 24 Dec 13 - 11:25 AM Well, now that Linn has posted the song list, it can seem like I was there! Had to cancel attending the session in order to get to Burlington VT before the ice storm, which we did, just barely (as did Peter). Just want to wish one and all the joys of the season, and a happy, healthy, and prosperous 2014. Don |
