Does anyone have the lyrics/tune for this song? I heard it at Whitby Folk Festival several years ago, but can only remember the chorus which begins: 'Thousands are sailing, far from the shore'

Graham, you might have come across it?

Thanks

Margaret

The song is by Graham Moore, of "Tolpuddle Man" fame, but I don't know any more than that. If I can find out anything (I'd like the tune and words too) I'll pass it on.

Is it possible that you missed the URL that wanted to be a blue clicky thing like this is in Patrish's post? Or wasn't that the song you were looking for?

In case you haven't got the words yet -

Wasted and worn, tattered and torn From the land I love best, on a ship sailing west Round me they cried, she leaned and sighed "Farewell, its the last of England"

Chorus Thousands are sailing far from this shore To a promise of freedom, hpoe for the poor Round me they cried, she leaned and sighed "Farewell, its the last of England"

Chorus

Thoughts of the past flooded my mind Tears filled our eyes, no words could we find As we set sail into the gale Farewell, its the last of England

Chorus

Those who're mistreated, put down abused By moneyed and landed, all help refused They've made their choice to cry with one voice Farewell its the last of England

Chorus

We gave our all, answered the call Oftimes cast down, with our backs to the wall No more we'll stand on your struggling strand Farewell, its the last of England

Chorus

Not the Pogues, Patrish, but thanks nevertheless......, but definitely the Graham Moore version from bobby's girl.Thank you! All I need now is the melody for the verse (all I can remember is the chorus tune); I'm waiting to hear from Graham Moore himself - this email is a wonderful thing!
