Subject: ADD: Hunting Song (Evelyn Wales) From: Joe Offer Date: 18 Nov 20 - 04:06 AM The German name of the song is "Jäegerchor," from the Carl Maria von Weber opera, Der Freischutz (The Private/Marksman) Here are the English lyrics, as printed in the program of a 1945 school performance. HUNTING SONG (Evelyn Wales) O hark to the sound of the huntsmen in the morning; Their clear notes re-echo afar on the hill. All fresh with the dew-drops the grass sparkles gaily, And perfumed with sweet-scented flowers is the air, As over the meadow the hunters are rushing, to baying of hounds And the horn’s loud fanfare. CHORUS Then come, follow on, follow on, follow on, The stag is away! O'er the fields. across the shining streamlet, See him at bay. Through the meadow and the emerald valley Sing Tally-ho! Sing Tally-ho! On, Hark Away! View Halloo! The stag leads them onward through coppice and moorland; The air is like wine as they gallop along. No barrier ran stay them till daylight is over, And proud hut exhausted their quarry is won; Then homeward they turn at the horn’s cheerful calling, contented and happy ’Neath the fast setting sun. Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Hark to the horns of the hunters From: GUEST Date: 18 Mar 15 - 09:05 PM Ann Duffy Hi, I was just looking for the music of this Schubert song that I learnt in primary school MANY, MANY years ago! I may not have it all (there's maybe a second verse between these two) but for what it's worth: O hark to the sound of the huntsmen in the morning; Their clear notes re-echo afar on the hill. All fresh with the dew-drops the grass sparkles gaily And perfumed with sweet-scented flowers is the air As over the meadow the hunters are rushing, To baying of hounds and the horn's loud fanfare. Then come, follow on, follow on, follow on; The stag is away through the fields, Across the shining meadows see him at bay, Through the ??? and the emerald valley, Sing tally-ho! Sing tally-ho! On, hark away, view hallo! The stag leads them onwards through coppice and moorland, The air is like wine as they gallop along. No barrier can stay them till daylight is over, And proud, but exhausted, their quarry is won. Then homeward they turn at the horn's cheerful calling, Contented and happy 'neath the fast-setting sun. Then come, follow on etc. Hope this helps, Ann annduffy40@gmail.com |
