I'm looking for lyrics and chords to an old-timey song called 'Cotton Lisle Stockings and a Two Dollar Dress' performed by Daisy Mae and Old Brother Charlie circa 1940s-50s. [Had to cut out some of the title to fit the Subject line.]

Couldn't find anything on the Inter/Web/Net except a copyright site and a hillbilly songs site. Between them I learned that Ethel Irene Arnett a/k/a Daisy Mae wrote the song and that Old Brother Charlie was Charles Arnett, Ethel's husband. But no words or music.

My wife has always refused to believe there was any such a song, especially since I repeated to her the only words I remember, 'You told my brother [mother?] I was a mess In my cotton lisle stockings and my two dollar dress.' My parents sang it every once in a while to us. Maybe in lieu of a lullaby.

COTTON LISLE STOCKINGS AND A TWO DOLLAR DRESS was first advertised in Billboard magazine on May 3, 1952. It was released as a 78-rpm record, Columbia 20935, b/w THE BOY ACROSS THE STREET.

I wonder how "cotton lisle", which is a term I have only ever encountered in an old Agatha Christie novel, wound up in a song clearly marketed as American hillbilly.

I'd like to see a country song where the country girl isn't portrayed as a loser. The media don't seem to realize that a country girl might have a cheap dress, but she's a great dancer with a sparkle in her eye, and she's a big hit at the dance.
