Happy New Year everyone. This was a wee bit fun from Auld Year's Night (as we say here in the Borders) a year ago. Pardon the basic guitar I much prefer just to sing with other people playing :-)

I hope to be in bed, asleep, when the fireworks go off. I'd prefer it that way.

Happy New Year, All!

I'm contentedly alone, already in a sweatsuit which I wear instead of PJs, and plan to spend time reading or watching two videos I borrowed from the library. At about 11:45 I'll probably turn on the TV to watch video coverage of the ball drop in Times Square. I just read that the ball drop has its roots in a nautical tradition! http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/2013/12/having-a-ball-the-history-behind-american-new-years-eve-celebrations.html?utm_source

Here on the Left Coast we have about six hours to go before the year rolls over. In that time, thousands of people around the planet will be maimed or slaughtered by the satanic devil rum or its evil cousins. Regardless the rest of the species will gallop on its way into celebratory oblivion like the children of Hamlin. My blessings upon them one and all and may they emerge unscathed. I am going out to the east side of the county where the best folkies hang out and will play my fingers sore with good will and non-alcoholic refreshment.

Hahaha! Yes we're home too. I will however be watching the neighbours fireworks - same as we did bonfire night. The big benefit to living in a more heavily populated area!

Love me some fireworks, bigger and louder the better - I like the ones that punch you right in the chest when they explode! I know they are not nice for pets, but folks should keep them in on celebration dates (we do).

Fourteen years past the hype of Y2K dire predictions.
- the worlds folks even made it through the 2012 end of the world predictions.

Looking back it makes me smile and wonder what's next?

We made it to midnight, went to bed soon after......not bad for two Olde Phartes such as what we are, as we don't always see midnight.

While a lot of folkses like the fireworks and I'm sure they are pretty, all I can see going up in the night sky is dollars.....lots and lots of dollars. The Sydney display costs millions, I understand it comes out of the Lord Mayor's bread and circuses fund.

Quiet evening in for us! Not even Jools' Hootenanny as we don't have telly anymore! Probably the only programme of the year I'd liked to have seen, oh well :)
Looks like repeats of The Office!

Have a good new year all. I dreamed I was dying last night - pretty convincing stuff, though as it was the last night of the year I attributed it to some kind of "out with the old" symbolbrainalism, hope so anyway!

Happy New Year all.

I hate New Year. I'm terrified of fireworks and crowds, and loud music brings on panic attacks.

I'm going to curl up in bed before too long. There's something more exciting (for me, anyway) in a few days time.

Upon seeing Freda's post, I raced to the TV... NO live coverage! A snippet on CBC News. I feel cheated!

It's around 1h 20mins to the first of the big New Year's celebrations across the globe when over 1.6 million people crowd the foreshores & another billion watch their screens to see live coverage of
Sydney's New Year's Eve Fireworks

Not me, mate, even tho I can wander down the street & around the corner & along the road to see the top of some of the fireworks over a very crowded street full of backpackers & residents going OOH & AHHH & taking pics.

Been there done that, & besides my camera s not good enough to get good pics!

Check out the countdown at the link so you know when to watch

sandra

ps. HAPPY NEW YEAR when it comes around to you.
