Subject: RE: Ralph Jordan - seriously ill From: GUEST,Mick Ryan Date: 03 Jan 14 - 06:15 AM I've only just heard about this. Terrible news. I had only just heard when 'The Capriol Suite' came on the radio. Ralph plays that beautifully on the concertina. Spooky coincidence. We'll be thinking of him. Mick (and Debs) Ryan. |
Subject: RE: Ralph Jordan - seriously ill From: Vic Smith Date: 03 Jan 14 - 06:11 AM from Dan Quinn My old friend and erstwhile musical partner Ralph Jordan died this morning. He was like none other. An incredible musician and great company. Never to be forgotten. |
Subject: RE: Ralph Jordan - seriously ill From: Nigel Paterson Date: 03 Jan 14 - 04:52 AM Coming very late to this thread. Returned yesterday from NC. I wish Ralph a complete recovery. I owe him much. He very patiently eased me through two recording sessions in 2005 when I was not in good shape, physically & mentally. Without his skill & incredibly relaxed attitude, those recordings would not have been useable. That he is now so threatened & in pain is most distressing to read. Get better, wholly & completely, dear man. In my thoughts, Nigel. |
Subject: RE: Ralph Jordan - seriously ill From: treewind Date: 03 Jan 14 - 03:39 AM What everyone else said. Hang in there Ralphie, get better and there's a lot of us hoping to see you again soon! Anahata |
Subject: RE: Ralph Jordan - seriously ill From: Janie Date: 02 Jan 14 - 08:49 PM Like Stilly, I don't know Ralphie but have always appreciated his contributions. Sending good thoughts. |
Subject: RE: Ralph Jordan - seriously ill From: GUEST,Pigstrings Date: 02 Jan 14 - 08:28 PM I well remember Ralph from the days of Crows and Silas, and his many stints as soundman par excellence at the Bracknell South Hill Park festivals of the late '70s and early '80s. All very best wishes for a swift and full recovery. |
Subject: RE: Ralph Jordan - seriously ill From: Steve Shaw Date: 02 Jan 14 - 06:05 PM I enjoy Ralph's contributions here greatly. All the very best from me. |
Subject: RE: Ralph Jordan - seriously ill From: Andy Jackson Date: 02 Jan 14 - 05:50 PM Thanks for the positive thought McG. Organs failing means they are still working and I'm sure he is getting the best of care. We can only stay positive, meanwhile hang in there Ralphie. See you in the Radway. |
Subject: RE: Ralph Jordan - seriously ill From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 02 Jan 14 - 05:06 PM Very worrying, but not "sad" so far, and let's hope it won't be. Only a couple of years ago I was in intensive care and my people were told my organs were failing and there wasn't much chance. Hang on in there Ralphie! |
Subject: RE: Ralph Jordan - seriously ill From: GUEST,Molly Barrett Date: 02 Jan 14 - 04:38 PM I doubt you remember me from years ago in Kipper Family days, Ralph, but your spark and gentle energy has remained with me. If I can bounce it back to you and yours with interest, I shall be glad. |
Subject: RE: Ralph Jordan - seriously ill From: GUEST,Adri Wells Date: 02 Jan 14 - 04:32 PM This is very sad news. I was great friends with Ralph back in the 70s when we formed his first band 'Peartree', but over the years lost touch, despite him being Best Man at my wedding to Teresa in 1975. I just happened to google his name this evening after my sister mentioned him, and this is the news I found. Best wishes to him and those close to him. Adri |
Subject: RE: Ralph Jordan - seriously ill From: GUEST,Jack Blandiver (aka Sean Breadin / Sedayne) Date: 02 Jan 14 - 04:31 PM Very sorry to hear this. Ralphie turned up with his trusty duet a few years back at our old session at The Moorbrook in Preston. We talked for a while before it twigged we knew each other via Mudcat. An emotional moment - we even hugged! Top geezer. Please get well soon, Ralphie - so we can meet again. |
Subject: RE: Ralph Jordan - seriously ill From: GUEST,Ed Date: 02 Jan 14 - 03:54 PM I've never met you. Mind you, anyone who loves 'The Slow Train' has a big tick in my book! I won't send 'healing vibes' or light a candle for you, because, as I'm sure you'd concur, such things are utter crap. Anyway, although you probably won't read this, all the very best. |

Subject: RE: Ralph Jordan - seriously ill From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 02 Jan 14 - 12:47 PM Gareth Kiddier has written the following on Ralphie's Facebook page. I have no words. Ralph has been on life support for over 24 hours now. He is peaceful and being well cared for, but may be fading. Sheena remains with him at the hospital. She asks that, if you know of friends who might not see this, you let them know. |

Subject: RE: Ralph Jordan - seriously ill From: GUEST,Mick Tems, cookieless Date: 02 Jan 14 - 04:56 AM Ralphie always contributes posts to Mudcat in a most positive, friendly way; it was him who cleaned up and "de-scratched" the Phil Tanner "Gower Nightingale" recordings and presented Veteran Records with a brilliant, up-to-date reproduction which would have made Phil proud, worthy of a commemorative CD. |

Subject: RE: Ralph Jordan - seriously ill From: Bonnie Shaljean Date: 01 Jan 14 - 09:21 PM I am gutted. Saw the notices on Facebook, the first of them worrisome enough, the second truly devastating. Lovely blithe-spirited Ralphie, one of my first friends on the folk scene when I was a stranger newly arrived in London. 2014, this is NOT a good start. I expect you to treat beloved friends more kindly than 2013 did. You can just stop shadow-boxing with us RIGHT. NOW. Ralphie, hang tight and stay with us. Love you ... |
Subject: RE: Ralph Jordan - seriously ill From: Noreen Date: 01 Jan 14 - 07:27 PM :( |
Subject: RE: Ralph Jordan - seriously ill From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 01 Jan 14 - 07:14 PM Bad to hear that. I hope very much things get better rapidly. |
Subject: Ralph Jordan - seriously ill From: Vic Smith Date: 01 Jan 14 - 06:40 PM Just before Christmas, I received a message to say that Ralph Jordan had a fall and had broken his hip. Today came a message from Gareth Kiddier which indicated that things had taken a turn very much for the worse. A message from Sheena. Ralphie has been transferred to ICU and his organs appear to be failing. Please hold them both in your thoughts at this difficult time. |
