Subject: Info Required London Pub Co.

Hello everyone. I'm 19 and my friend and I plan on taking a leap across the pond for a working vacation in the UK. We live in Canada reasonably close to Toronto. We're both heavily interested in folk music and I thought this would be the perfect place for advice and info. I have a few questions.

Has anyone heard of the London Pub Co? Here's the link http://www.londonpub.com.au/
I was wondering if anyone has ever been to a pub with employees hired through this company? Or if anyone can tell me any personal experience with this company.

If you have heard of this, and it isnt all its cracked up to be. Are there any alternatives?

Is there a better way to start a working vacation in the UK?

My most important question:
Besides london, where would the best town/city to go (or to go near) to be immersed in folk music the most? Where would be the best place to try to perform?

Am I being extremely outlandish here or is this something thats tried often?

If you gents could help me find my way on this I would be very appreciative, I don't know who else to ask.

Matthew, it is late for the Brits just now. Have you written to the London office? I ask because the link is to Australia although the page that opens does have a London email address to contact as well as one in Vancouver. And, I trust you have read the following:

Sorry I forgot about timezones!

But yes I have read it, I'm ready to take a few risks for an adventure.

And you misunderstand me Noreen, Gents means Gentlemen and Gentlewomen! :) I would love to hear what you have to say

If you're a folkie wanting to deal with Folkie Brewers, the team at Meantime are your men, active at the Royal Oak Blackheath.

Matthew,

I don't know of this particular company, so can't give a recommendation.

That said, I'm a Londoner & I've used one or two pubs in the London area that only had staff via this sort of arrangement and they were all highly competent. Usual arrangement seemed to be for a pub's worth of staff to turn up together, stay for a month or two then move on, perhaps to a different city & start again. Always seemed to be from either Australia or New Zealand, never a mixture for some reason or other...

Most areas seem to have Folk listings sites, such as Folk London (http://www.folklondon.co.uk/) in the London area, which might help you find somewhere. Outside of London I'm sure the good people of Mudcat will suggest the best places to be!

Good luck

Ted

Hello all! I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience with this visa and the best way to spend a working vacation in the UK.

I've been looking at some companies but I would like to hear your opinions on this.

I want to go on a working vacation for up to two years and I would like to know where the jobs are beyond bartending in a pub.

Thanks for the info my friends!
