had a chat on the phone with Derek. He's getting over a nasty fall over a rug which left him with a very painful cracked rib.

someone has given him a an I-pad for his birthday, and he is consequently now on face book. I'm sure he will be glad to make some cyber friends and getting s few cyber pokes, and messages from his old mates on the folkscene.

He sometimes looks in here as well - cracked rib'll be a bit of a bugger for someone who laughs so much.

Best wishes, Unc.

Pete

At Derek's age (Poor old sod is older than ME) there is no such thing as a nice fall . Wishing him well and LOTS of sympathy re the cracked rib .

just got a call from Del. He's had a nasty fall on the drive outside his house. Apart from a cut on his nose, he feels not too bad. But I bet he would like to hear from his old mates -if you can find the time to give him a bell.

Very sorry to hear this.
Hopefully it doesn't sound too bad, and with a bit of luck Derek will be out and about and joking about it before too long.

Best wishes from a long time audience member.

Glad there's no serious harm done, otherwise my first thought would have to be kept to myself:

Reading the thread title I thought:
Derek Brimstone had a nasty fall ... There must be a parody there, the scansion matches:
(The) Virgin Mary had a baby boy

Best wishes

Nigel

Chin up Uncle Del, Annie and I are trying to come over from Aus in September and maybe we can catch up for a "Ruby" or some such.

Cheers

Hi Derek hope you are well . Just bumped into this site and it reminded me of those long lost days in deepest Cornwall where I first met you and your family at John battensbys cottage in perranwell. I rember we we all wearing our regulation folk uniforms of peaked cloth cap and knotted silk scarve and one of your boys called me a poofter! Of course he was duly admonished.. What wonderful times we had on the Cornish folk scene .         I rember you were booked at a local club which had a no smoking policy and it was wonderful to behold . Slowly and with deliberation you pulled out a packet of cigarettes lit one ,took a puff , attached it to the end of your guitar and said ' stuff it' or words to that effect. I wish you a long and happy retirement. Thanks for all the fun.
