Subject: RE: Tech: Plague of Blue Clickies From: Leadfingers Date: 26 Jan 14 - 03:51 AM A LOT of 'useful free downloads seem have extra's that need to be deselected before hitting 'Go' |
Subject: RE: Tech: Plague of Blue Clickies From: eddie1 Date: 26 Jan 14 - 03:07 AM Hi Folks Looks like a success. Scan threw up about 100 instances of the same malware. I deleted the lot and (touch wood) everything seems back to normal. Thanks for the help Eddie |
Subject: RE: Tech: Plague of Blue Clickies From: eddie1 Date: 25 Jan 14 - 10:14 AM Thanks for weighing in Folks. I've downloaded Malwarebytes and have a scan running as I post. Will let you know how it goes Edddie |
Subject: RE: Tech: Plague of Blue Clickies From: maeve Date: 25 Jan 14 - 07:17 AM Guest Peter's link leads to a discussion of an extension called "GreatArcadeHits" which was piggybacked onto something else he had downloaded. Might be the same as the thingie DMcG described in the quoted above. So... a look into your extensions/adware is in order, it seems. Thanks for weighing in, Guest Peter. |
Subject: RE: Tech: Plague of Blue Clickies From: GUEST,Peter Date: 25 Jan 14 - 06:33 AM I saw problem reported by somebody on a tech forum a couple of weeks ago. See the thread here |
Subject: RE: Tech: Plague of Blue Clickies From: maeve Date: 25 Jan 14 - 06:10 AM Eddie, here is one possibility: ********************************** Subject: RE: Mudcat Virus or new feature From: DMcG - PM Date: 02 Nov 12 - 09:57 AM As the opening poster, I can report that there were no viruses as such, but somewhere along the lines I'd picked a 'utility add-in' called something like "Grand Offers" which must have been installed alongside something I actually wanted. Fortunately it seems to be reasonably well-behaved in the sense that disabling it stopped the behaviour and it uninstalled when asked to. ***************** Time for a scan? Let us know how you do. Good luck! Maeve |
Subject: RE: Tech: Plague of Blue Clickies From: maeve Date: 25 Jan 14 - 05:52 AM You have malware or similar on your computer. I'll have a look for for the thread where this was discussed months ago. |
Subject: Tech: Plague of Blue Clickies From: eddie1 Date: 25 Jan 14 - 05:26 AM Was on Mudcat 30 minutes ago with no problems. Having returned, I find Blue Clickies all over the place, in pretty well every thread, on words which are part of the text! Hovering over the Clicky reveals a link to a video site which I haven't clicked on. What the hell has happened? Eddie |
