Fiddle player wanted for recently formed band in York/North Yorkshire area. If you play anything else as well then all to the good. If you can sing or add in the odd harmony all the better but not essential. In short, bring what you have. Just looking to augment the sound that we have so far.

There are four of us currently. We all sing. Instrumentally three of us play guitar and bass and can add in a bit of mandolin and banjo too. No great big egos and we all have played in bands and things before of various types - we aim to create a good band sound without everyone clambering over each other to solo or grab the limelight. We are over 50 but age (well I think we all are it doesn't cross my mind) is not a concern from our end as long as the person is comfortable.

Our aim? Short term to work up a set list of a couple of hours worth of songs to a decent standard with a view to performing at gigs. Currently we have about an hour and a halfs worth of material without any pauses. We have played live together once and got good feedback. We meet up about once a week while getting a set together usually on a weekend afternoon - but that's flexible.

It's very much song based. Acoustic (except bass - though if we can find a double bass...) with a leaning towards country - folk but with various other things like a jazzy influence or the odd pop song. Strong tunes and good lyrics. Pretty much what any of us all like and agree on! There is a list of some of the things we already play or are working on at the bottom

It ISN'T a tunes band. Though not ruling out the odd instrumental it is mostly about playing within the framework of a song with chances for intros/breaks etc rather than lots of sets of jigs, reels and hornpipes. I know that can be an off put for some people who are big tune players so it is best to state it at the outset.

We tend to record most of our practices so we can hear where we are going right and wrong and there are some examples here. With the exception of two songs (Who Knows Where the Time Goes and Loving Time) they are as we played them warts and all sitting around in our front room. Some we have played together only a handful of times (excuses I know, just don't expect perfection yet). It gives an idea of what we sound like and what we do but they are things in progress rather than finished tracks. The two I mentioned have a synthesised 'fiddle' like thing overdubbed on the top as an example to someone who was in touch of a possible way to play along (they wanted some notes and it was a way to do it).

If you are interested or know anyone who might be interested who you could pass this onto you can contact me by message here, or in the thread or email fiddleATnickblair.co.uk . I can always explain more by phone, in person or online.

Across The Great Divide - It's Too Late - Lance's Song - Loving Time - Not 'Cause I Wanted To - I Shall Be Released - So Far Away - Song For A Life - Speed of the Sound of Loneliness - Tower of Song - Trouble in the Fields - Who Knows Where the Time Goes - Can't Find My Way Home - Don't Know Why - In My Life - My Father - Nat Shapiro's Time - Nobody Wins - Wide Eyed and Legless - Willard - I Will - You've Got a Friend

What a pity I don't play fiddle as this just the kind of thing I like to do. Unfortunately I can only offer mandolin, guitar, vocals and some harmonica.

Good luck with the search

Roger
