Subject: Folklore: Do You have Ninty-Nine Eyes?
From: GUEST,Michael-wa7qzr

In the late 50s or early 60s I was beginning to appreciate records. There was a a song from a children's record I owned, that I've long since lost, which I cannot get out of my head. These are the following incomplete lyrics. The tune seems to be unique to the song. The tempo was fast.

"I've got 99-eyes and 88-tails,
44-ears and 55-noses
33-fingers on each hand,
I just don't understand, why;

"All my friends run away from me
away from me
away from me
away from me
I don't know why they run from me.
I'm normal as I can be."

Well folks, that's all I can remember of it. I'd like to know the nane, the complete lyrics and even get a hold of a copy, digital or vinyl.

I was just thinking of this song the past couple weeks, myself. I had the record and I hope you're correct on the numbers and body parts.

The gratifying second (or third?) verse goes:

Then one morning I made a friend
He said to me
"How do you do?
Won't you please come and play with me
'Cause I'm just the same as you."

[two voices in harmony:]

We've … got … [and into the chorus]

The "88-tails" might be 88-toes.

We're still wishin' & hopin' for it all.

It's been found!

99 Eyes

All my friends run away from me, away from me, away from me.
I don't know why they run from me. I'm normal as I can be.

I've got 99 eyes and 88 toes. 44 ears and 55 noses. 33 fingers on each hand, I don't understand, why,

All my friends run away from me, away from me, away from me.
I don't know why they run from me. I'm normal as I can be.

I've got 22 feet and 66 tails, 7 teeth, and 19 toenails, 5 or 6 eyebrows on my snout, I can't figure it out. But,

Then one morning I made a friend, he said to me “How do you do. Won't you please come and play with me, 'cause I'm just the same as you.”

We've got 99 eyes and 88 toes. 44 ears and 55 noses. 33 fingers on each hand, Isn't friendship grand.

We've got 22 feet and 66 tails, 7 teeth, and 19 toenails,
Two good friends; Or are we three?
We're happy as happy can be.

The song was performed by "The Sandpipers" with the Jim Timmens Orchestra. I couldn't find a copyright date but, the record I found only cost 29-cents so, it's been quite a while.

There has got to be song potential in the anatomy of the box jellyfish, which has one mouth and 64 arseholes.

"I couldn't find a copyright date but, the record I found only cost 29-cents so, it's been quite a while." Looks like the release date was between 1960 to 1962. At least on Golden Records. It was a 45 with serial # FF706A.
