Ah, but I didn't want to find a band. I wanted to find the Yell entries of bands that I enjoy working with and dancing to, so that I could give them a good review.

Try the Set & Turn Single website. A search for bands & musicians in Cheshire (here) produced 10 hits.

It may not be a search engine, but it you can search for e.g. plumbers in Tarporley, or dance callers in Cheshire.
I put myself in the free listings in the Yellow Pages and Thompsons about 15 years ago - Entertainers category (before I knew anything about the internet). And when they rang me to check my entry was up-to-date they offered me internet listing on YEll. No idea where people find me when they ring up out of the blue, I stuck myself on anything I could think of.

I do use YELL to find things.

But I wondered what terms other Mudcatters would use to ask.

YELL is a business directory rather than a search engine. I must admit I hadn't thought of listing my band in it.

If you were searching for a band or a caller for an evening of participatory folk dancing, what would you ask YELL to find for you.
When I stuck 'dance caller' and 'Cheshire' in I found myself. But looking for bands gave me none in Cheshire, only much further south.

YELL rang me last week about an update to it's pages, so I looked and found my page (free listing). It had a button for reviews, so I thought I find some of the bands I enjoy working with or dancing to and give them a good word.
