I always thought that it was SAINT Valentine's Day , but obviously nowadays it isn't . So ,roll on April and we can celebrate George's Day ( and we British mustn't forget Dave, Pat ,and Andy's Days either !! ).

You're quite right of course, bubblyrat. Saint Valentine. I just hope when I arrive at the Pearly Gates, Pete will let me in.

For those who don't know....St. Valentine was beaten, stoned, beheaded and buried on 14 Feb 269 AD for helping persecuted Christians and marrying Christian couples! Such was his love of them!

I said I would cook Mrs Musket a nice meal tonight and need advice.

Is it best to cut the toast into a love shape or arrange the baked beans thus?

Mrs Musket is a lucky woman. But not to worry, no need to shape the meal. Baked beans are HEARTy enough as they are.

Thank you Eliza, Congrats Keith! Tis Best to have loved and to have spent 11 or more Valentines married. Bubbly, I learn about Valentines in Grade five, cutting out paper hearts from a huge crafts book and giving them to teacher classmates and family. As it is not a religious holiday, the Saint came later.

Eliza if pete is there, many of us will have to settle for the crowding and companionship below. GS, what a wonderful topic for a romantic dinner. :-)

Amergin nothing says romance like a large ranting bearded American on web cam. :-)

We are going to have a nice mean and turn up the heat, our plans after that have been redacted.

I'm married to a large, bearded, occasionally ranting American.

This morning I came down to the kitchen and found on the counter a dark red saucer filled with white powdered milk. A heart had been sculpted in the milk.

Eat your hearts out, ye cynics!

My Dark Lady of the sonnets presented me with a box of liqueur chocolates in bed this morning, and a card. She got a card from me - but she also got the first chocolate.

It's steak and red wine this evening. Madame will cook the steak - I'll drink the wine.

It's a hard life...

So I spent St Valentine's day sitting at the hospital waiting while they diagnosed that I've had a smallish stroke! Doing OK - sort of. Just feeling a bit dozy and I'm very clumsy but at least I'm back home now, after a night in a hospital bed.
Happy whatever day we're up to....
Robyn

The heart inspired baked beans on toast looked complicated and risky. Thought I'd save it for my signature dish when getting my first Michelin star.

Made do with garlic chicken cassoulet in a white wine sauce. Got a bit left if anyone wants it?

If you are allergic to nuts, you shouldn't be reading the BS section in the first place.

You're on Eliza. It has mushrooms, small spuds and shallots in it, and borlotti beans that started to mush a wee bit to thicken the sauce. A bouquet of oregano, thyme, parsley and sage went in and fished out later, though a sprinkling of 'erb de Provençe remains. The white wine in question was a Sauvignon Blanc from Small & Small, (2011) a small New Zealand producer I buy from via Naked Wines. Not having chicken stock to hand, I made a bouillon vegetable stock. Four hours in the bottom of the aga and it hit the spot.

I suggest a bed of rice to soak up the sauce.

Dunno what to make her next year though. I might practice the beans on toast between now and then.

On a serious note, my signature dish is a vat of mushy peas. Don't knock it till you try it.

Al... If more people ate mushy peas, there'd be no need for Jeremy Kyle as they make us sophisticated, erudite and farty.

Hence not part of my Valentine meal. Although the beans in the cassoulet.........

I always feed my dogs mushy peas. (Racing dogs.) No salt or sugar though. Plenty of fibre in mushy peas. Didnt know you were an expert Musket. I'll bring a few buckets round and you can make me some.

Sadly, nobody at present to share Valentine with, but living in hope, (as opposed to Hope. I dont live in Derbyshire.)
