Subject: Tune Req: Pretty little girl with ribbons in hair From: GUEST,Steve Harrison Date: 02 Mar 14 - 12:22 PM I'm looking for the melody (and indeed the words too) of a music hall song with a first line something along the lines of 'A pretty little girl with ribbons in her hair'. My only information so far is from an acquaintance whose great grandmother apparently sang this in the halls. Any information would be welcome. Thanks. |

I'm coming at this from information about the probable singers, names of Flower Dawes (mother) and Nellie Dawes (daughter) believed to be active singers in the halls in the second half of the C19th. It's been suggested that the tune for this song is (or resembles) that used for the Rochdale Coconut Dance in the 1850s, and still played by session/ ceilidh musicians under that name. cheers Steve |
