I looked through the other threads on karaoke but none were on point - which point is:

Ppeople keep saying that I need a song to be my karaoke song if I want to try karaoke, so I've been trying to research what songs are sung where to get a feel without going out there first for what is sung where, since I know an awful lot of songs and can sing the songs I know for the most part... anyway, to my surprise this is not something the worldwise web can answer, at least not the way I've been phrasing the question (although asking for what is *requested* rather than performed worked better), yet I can't seem to find a graphic anywhere that does karaoke popularity of genres or averagely-popular songs, say, by region within the average (US by state, state by region, region by city, city by bar?)... can you musicwise mudcatters help?

I am by now curious as to what is sung where whether or not I need a song to do karaoke or whether or not I do karaoke at all.

The question of do I really need a song (can't I go out there deaf {rather than blind as the usual metaphor} and just listen to what is being sung, then ask if they have something I know in that genre?) can also be addressed. I had never heard that people who do it have a song they do. Is that the way it is?
