Had a quick look and could not find a thread about this play that I went to see in Halifax last nigh.
It concerns the beginning of WW 1 and the preparations for the Saddleworth Rushcart of 1914 as a starting point.
The actors have worked with the Saddleworth side to learn the dance steps and have obviously worked very hard to get things authentic. I hear that one of the cast is now joining Saddleworth as an active member.
The play was well worth seeing and I imagine that it will open the eyes of many ordinary members of the public to the folk traditions of the area. As you would expect the it becomes very emotional and I saw several members of the audience wiping their eyes as they left.
Go see it!

Brilliant production seen at the Vic. Newcatle S-O-T. Would recommend it to anyone. Thoroughly entertaining and emotional. Puts many a morris side to shame with the fantastic dancing skills.

The play is the latest production by Northern Broadsides, who have a long & excellent tradition of including elements of folk song and dance in their productions - their clog-dancing witches in Macbeth were a particular highlight ( and made sense in context).

Yes, I was at Newcastle New Vic on the last night, when the audience gave them a standing ovation! And it wasn't until I got home and read the programme, that I found out that Mike Waterson had written the Rushcarters song.
