Subject: ADD: Town and Country (Rod McKuen) From: Joe Offer Date: 12 Dec 19 - 12:59 AM Somebody emailed me a request for "Town and Country," by the New Christy Minstrels. I found them here: http://www.mitomori.co.jp/song/lyrics_Town%20and%20country.html I haven't verified them. TOWN AND COUNTRY (words & music by Rod McKuen, 1963) CHORUS I'll climb your mountains I'll plow your fields. I'll pick the apple That your orchard yields. I'll work your factories wherever they may be. In any town or country where a man walks free. When lonesome gets me hogtied And worry bogs me down. Then I hit the roads again And find another town. The moonlight is my mama Yeah, the sun is my old man. My brother and my sister Are the wind and shiftin' sand. Ah now........CHORUS My heart is like a big bear It's hungry all the time. It's got to fill itself up in spring or summertime. But when the winter rolls around I find myself alone. It's time to hit the hills again Just like a rolling stone. Yeah........ Well, so much for my story I guess I've had my say. It's time this weary travelin' man Went traveling on his way. Just smile and tip your hat If you see me coming 'round In any town or country...... Country or town........ Ah now....... Subject: Lyr Add: A Travelin' Man (Scott Turner) From: Jason Xion Wang Date: 30 Mar 14 - 12:11 PM A Travelin' Man - sounds like a song written by Randy Sparks, but it's actually a Scott Turner song. Here is what I hear, still lyrics but not chords. A Travelin' Man (Scott Turner) A travelin' man always longs for a home 'Cause a travelin' man is always alone I traveled from Maine to the Barbary Shore But I'm gettin' so weary, I can travel no more I rambled the highways and sailed 'cross the sea Wonderin', always wonderin' where the next stop would be A travelin' man always longs for a home 'Cause a travelin' man is always alone Seen the mansions of England, the villas of Rome Each man has his castle, but the road's been my home So fair thee well, ladies, there's none quite so fair But a travelin' man has only one prayer To be just a farmer with a plow and a hoe Instead of a drifter with no place to go A travelin' man always longs for a home 'Cause a travelin' man is always alone Yes, a travelin' man always longs for a home 'Cause a travelin' man is always alone |
Subject: Lyr Add: Denver (Randy Sparks) From: Jason Xion Wang Date: 29 Mar 14 - 11:42 PM Here is what I got, lyrics but not chords to "Denver". John Denver got his stage name from this song, I believe. I tried to transcribe the lyrics to "Ramblin'" and "A Travelin' Man" as well, but failed. A few words I couldn't recognize clearly. DENVER (Randy Sparks) Ha! Come on, big mule! I was drivin' a rig outta Texas All loaded an' bound for Cheyenne Takin' my pleasures so freely Just a good lovin' ramblin' man I had quite a way with the ladies "Sweet Daddy" was my middle name Till I got to a place they called Denver And I ain't never been quite the same Ha! I've been to St Louis and Abilene I've rambled through many a town But I got me a woman in Denver, Lord That's where I'm settlin' down Well, I kissed her an' swore that I loved her I told her some day she'd be mine And then I laughed all the way back to Texas Hah-hah, to think she'd believe that ol' line Well, I got to pinin' for Denver It's funny how things come to be As I slipped the ring on her finger Well, I knew that the laugh was on me Ha! I've been to St Louis and Abilene I've rambled through many a town But I got me a woman in Denver, Lord That's where I'm settlin' down Now all you young fellas take warnin' You single men, run for your life Be careful an' stay outta Denver Or else you'll wind up with a wife You'll walk down the street unsuspectin' And you won't believe what you see 'Cause the prettiest gals live in Denver Lord, you'll wind up happy like me Ha! I've been to St Louis and Abilene I've rambled through many a town But I got me a woman in Denver, Lord That's where I'm settlin' down Come on, big mule! Got me a woman in Denver, Lord That's where I'm settlin' down Ha! |
Subject: Lyr/Chords Req: New Christy Minstrels' hits From: Jason Xion Wang Date: 29 Mar 14 - 11:35 PM I just found that there are only a few NCM lyrics here on mudcat. "Green, Green" and "Today" are on DT, "Last Farewell" and "Anything Love Can Buy" are also in some threads, but I can't find the chords or lyrics to other minor hits like "Ramblin'", "Denver" and typical NCM works like "A Travelin' Man", "Rovin' Gambler", "Whippoorwill". Can anybody help? Thanks a lot. Jason |
