Subject: Ideal backing band From: GUEST,FloraG Date: 03 Apr 14 - 03:15 AM I've just heard Duncan Chisolm and Mike Mcgoldrick on radio 2 and it made me think who I would like as the ideal backing band. They would be hard to beat. Any preferences? FloraG. |

Subject: RE: Ideal backing band From: Les in Chorlton Date: 03 Apr 14 - 03:07 PM I would be looking for 3 or 4 squeezers, 2 banjos, 3 guitars, 4 fiddles, loads of recorders and whistles, bongos and snares, smallpipes, maybe a 'cello or two and an elecrtic bass. And here they are! Best wishes |
Subject: RE: Ideal backing band From: GUEST,FloraG Date: 04 Apr 14 - 03:07 AM I'm surprised everyone wanted so many backers. This sounds more like an orchestra than a folk group. I know the trend is to finish a festival with a big band - but wouldn't most people for personal satisfaction want 2 or three playing with expertise and improvisation. FloraG |
Subject: RE: Ideal backing band From: breezy Date: 04 Apr 14 - 03:34 AM as long as they can play and follow the singer with augmentation and empathy, a fiddle and harmony voice. Richard Thompson should have sacked his bassist |

Subject: RE: Ideal backing band From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 04 Apr 14 - 06:18 AM Assuming I played a lead instrument I'd want Sam Kelly on drums and Pete Stroud on bass. If I was on washboard I'd want Sonny Black on guitar. RtS |
