Subject: RE: I need a new band name... From: DADGBE Date: 07 Dec 04 - 01:41 PM All the good names do seem to be taken. 'The Fabulous Poodles' and 'Moby Dick and the Seamen' have already been done. What's left for a poor band to find? I'm in a local singing group named 'The OK Chorale' so you can't use that... A daunting task! |
Subject: RE: I need a new band name... From: GUEST,Ondy Date: 07 Dec 04 - 12:51 PM Our band had a bunch of names and 99% of the actual good names were taken. And we cant even agree on that. |
Subject: RE: I need a new band name... From: GUEST,banjoman Date: 01 Dec 04 - 06:21 AM Used to play in a band called "Diss" but changed it when we realised what the audience really meant when they shouted "Diss Band" So we became the "Elastic Band" which stretched our musical ability a bit to far so we broke up when the guitar player finally snapped. Great thread |

Subject: RE: I need a new band name... From: GUEST,ClaireBear Date: 09 Nov 04 - 03:19 PM I sort of like Abahdrabia, but I must say that it makes me think your music is going to consist of Middle Eastern flavor covers of Abba hits, which I rather doubt is what you intend to evoke. Also if I were, say, to type that name into a search engine, I'd be quite likely to spell it wrong. Best of luck with your search! |
Subject: RE: I need a new band name... From: Den Date: 09 Nov 04 - 03:09 PM I always thought, "The Whistling Mothers" would be a great name for a band. Or how about "Duncan Disorderly". Guest danman you might want to start a new thread as this one is pretty old and people may not check in. |

Subject: RE: I need a new band name... From: Jo Taylor Date: 14 Mar 00 - 06:21 PM Well, I said I'd let you know. Thanks for all the wonderful and also the silly suggestions! Unfortunately, many of the wonderful ones would have been a bit hard for the French to pronounce (and for us to explain...)We've ended up as four of us, and we're called Griffon - sort of vaguely celtic, easy pronunciation, and happens to be the surname of one of the band (with a slight adjustment). The first gig is St. P's day (Friday), the 2nd the night after, the 3rd next week... Thanks again all, Jo |

Subject: RE: I need a new band name... From: InOBU Date: 02 Dec 99 - 02:21 PM One of the great band names for an Irish American band, was the Splongents. An ex-splonge tells me that one of them was stoned on some strange cemical and just said the word - and it became them. Not that I endorce cemical help in naming your band. Perhaps, the Jams ODonals, after the name the schoolmaster gave to all the Gaelic speaking kids in Flan OBrians, An Beal Bocht. (for some reason the apostrophies dont seem to work on this program, nor do fadas or other accents - hardly matters I suppose, as my spelling is wanting anyway...) Good Luck Larry Otway |

Subject: RE: I need a new band name... From: Alice Date: 26 Nov 99 - 07:57 PM I have asked a friend of mine in France who is a Celtic music fan what she thinks would be a good name. I'll pass along her suggestions if she gets back to me on it.
Did you go back in the archive link and read the thread where we suggested names for alison's band?
I can't remember all of them that I wrote in that thread, but one was:
Gaelic Breath (you know, garlic bread... oh, well, it isn't French, really.)
How about.... Oui Little People (you know, the wee folk, I mean the Oui Folk....) -alice flynn (and I think Father O'Flynn is a great name) |
Subject: RE: I need a new band name... From: Lesley Palmer Date: 26 Nov 99 - 05:19 PM how about "synergie" according to my dictonary it means when the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Only problem its already been pinched as a car name. |
Subject: RE: I need a new band name... From: stupidbodhranplayerwhodoesn'tknowanybetter Date: 26 Nov 99 - 01:16 PM Some friends of mine who live in Montreal found another band going by the same name as them so they changed their name to "Nobody You Know". Also, there is the story of a banjo player turned electric guitarist who flipped through a dictionary and found the entry: recurring motif in European folktales in which a traveller comes upon a village who refuses to bury a man who died in debt. The hero spends his last penny to provide the corpse with a proper burial. The ghost of the corpse befriends the man anonymously and helps him to win a fortune, marry a princess, et.al. The ghost finally reveals himself. ANd thus was born th San fFrancisco band, the Grateful Dead. Check your dictionary, it can't hurt. Rich |

From: Liz the Squeak Date: 25 Nov 99 - 05:10 AM I don't know how they find them, but some of the obscure words that computer companies find as passwords for new internet accounts are quite fun, although you may end up being called Axolotl, which people might think is a rock band, or a medicine for piles.... Subject: RE: I need a new band name... From: Jeri Date: 24 Nov 99 - 07:57 PM Sam, I can't find a thesaurus, but I tried it with a French-English dictionary, resulting in the word "cohesion," with an accent over the "e." With the Scrabble dictionary, the word was "billbug" (weevil). The French word for "weevil" is "charancon," with another accent my computer won't do under the second "c." Subject: RE: I need a new band name... From: Jo Taylor Date: 24 Nov 99 - 07:12 PM Pog, I didn't see your posting last night, just the two from your aliased parents above it; I do apologise for bandying your name around on the internet without your permission. Yes, we have a dog on the threads now. Wonder if she's ever met a possum? Steve (P), I also apologise for unjustly accusing you of interference! Steve (the one wot really wrote it), I've thought of a ruder one than that but I'd better tell you off the forum! Jo |
