Subject: Alasdair Roberts in Concert nr Kendal From: GUEST,Lyon Events Date: 15 Apr 14 - 08:40 AM Alasdair Roberts in Concert Saturday the 26th April at Holme Parish Hall Between Kendal & Lancaster, 8:00pm Start. All Tickets £10.00 Book tickets at www.lyonevents.co.uk A singer and acoustic fingerstyle guitarist, Alasdair's work consists of the interpretation and arrangement of traditional ballads as well as the writing and composition of new songs which draw extensively on the traditional musical and folkloric stock of Scotland and beyond. His latest album 'A Wonder Working Stone' has at its core Alasdair's distinctive tenor voice and idiosyncratic open-tuned finger style guitar. The tracks draw heavily on the traditional song culture of the British Isles. However, that's only one of the many influences to be felt in the work, which also has nods to rock, baroque, rap and New Orleans marching band musics; Roberts's extraordinary lyricism takes its place in the lineage of a Scottish literary tradition encompassing modernist poets such as Ian Crichton Smith, Sorley MacLean and Hugh MacDiarmid, back through Robert Burns and Robert Tannahill to the mediaeval 'makars' and Gaelic bards of Dark Age Dalriada. |
