Llanfair, there is a small rectangle at the bottome of the chat screen, you type in there and press enter..... what you have written will move up into the chat box.

LLanfair - this may sound dumb but you do realise, I hope, that you have to click on "enter the chat room" n order to access the "speak" boxes? I spoke with Jon in the chat room last night and it was working fine.....

I have tried to access the chat room every time I visit. All I ever get to after click here to enter, is a grey box

Melbert, The chat might even work better for me now! I have just bought a new keyboard - hopefully it will put an end to some of my horrendous typos... Even if it doesn't it's an excuse gone for me.

The chat room requires your browser be Java4 compatible, so Netscape 4.5 (or above) or MS explorer 4.x or above, and you also cannot be behind a firewall.....

the "gray box" is what I get when I am at work....

Patrish, I got a gray box also until I upgraded my Netscape. The older version had problems reading JAVA. This might, maybe, possibly be the your problem as well.

Sometimes it takes a good while for the gray box to metamorphose into the yellow chat box.

I know why I get a grey box now, I am behind a firewall - I really must get hooked up at home. There now, a new years resolution. Could that be the beginning of a new thread?

I've got it open at the moment, there appears to be someone called 'willie-o' there but he/she's silent, 'poet' came & went while I wasn't looking - could it be possible to make it 'ping' when someone enters so that one can keep it minimised while looking at the threads? I managed to say hello but another line I typed didn't come up in the box...

you can put whatever you "want to do" into the do box... it will put your name in front

eg. if I typed "gives everyone a big hug" in the "do" box, and hit enter... it will say "alison gives everyone a big hug.

I agree with it needing a "doorbell" to let you know if someone comes in while you are off reading the threads, or one of those "sleep" functions where it automatically reappears on your screen if someone appears or types something. i'm off to try it now
