Subject: Obit: Stan Kelly-Bootle From: GUEST,Derek Schofield Date: 30 Apr 14 - 05:02 AM Sadly, Stan Kelly-Bootle died on 16 April 2014. There is a piece on the Guardian website: http://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/apr/29/stan-bootle-obituary And also pieces in the Liverpool Echo and a Liverpool-based website. http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/liverpool-singer-songwriter-author-stan-kelly-7003481 http://www.liverpoolconfidential.co.uk/Culture/Stan-Kelly-Stan-Bootle-obituary-Liverpool-Lullaby Sorry, I always make a mess of the blue clicky, so please, can someone do that for me? Stan was a pioneer folk revivalist, being involved in the folk club at Cambridge University by 1950, even before MacColl had met Lloyd. he wrote the words of Liverpool Lullaby - as recorded by Cilla Black and others - and the song I Wish I was back in Liverpool. He was an early recording artist with Topic Records, a computer pioneer and a strong supporter of Liverpool FC (football club, not folk club!) He was last on stage singing at Bill Leader's EFDSS Gold Badge concert last Autumn. Derek |
Subject: RE: Obit: Stan Kelly-Bootle From: Dave the Gnome Date: 30 Apr 14 - 05:28 AM How sad. A very clever and talented man. I think he posted on here once in regard to his "Liverpool Lullaby" but cannot find it. I did find a posting by him here which gives a great link between two of his main passions and a good insight into his sense of humour. Condolences to his family and friends. Cheers DtG |

Subject: RE: Obit: Stan Kelly-Bootle From: MGM·Lion Date: 30 Apr 14 - 05:42 AM Alas, there goes another of the early Revival greats. I knew him a bit at Cambridge, and better when I used to go the the club he organised and fronted for Bruce Dunnett at the Cranbourne in Gt Newport St. Fine singer. Delightful man. He will be much missed. ~Michael~ |

Subject: RE: Obit: Stan Kelly-Bootle From: GUEST,Litto Date: 03 May 14 - 08:16 AM A lovely guy, and just about the most diverting and intellectually wide-ranging conversationalist ever. My little tribute is a blog devoted to a transcription of my first encounter with Stan. I've called it The Table Talk of Stan Kelly, and it can be accessed by clicking here - http://www.dyversemusic.com/2014/05/the-table-talk-of-stan-kelly-pt-1.html Thanks, Mike |
Subject: RE: Obit: Stan Kelly-Bootle From: Noreen Date: 18 May 14 - 04:07 PM Stan has been featured on today's "Last Word" on BBC Radio 4. Available now on Listen again and podcast. Stan singing "Liverpool Lullaby" at YouTube |

Some of his own comments seem to have been removed from his yt Liverpool Lullaby because I remember him apologising for mixing up the verses -over enthusiastic "wetting of the baby's head" was blamed I think! |
Subject: RE: Obit: Stan Kelly-Bootle (1929-2014) From: breezy Date: 01 Apr 15 - 05:22 PM I met him briefly after I had performed at the Cambridge in Cambridge circus Soho. He was surprised that I knew of him when he introduced himself. He was generous in his encouragement and praise. A moment I'll not forget. |
