Shrewsbury FF is looking a bit same old same old to me. Having said that it looked the same last year, then suddenly up pops Tim O'Brien, Barnstar, and the Carolina Chocolate Drops. Am hoping Alan Surtees has a few tricks up his sleeve for this year.

Thats what I mean the same old faces just repackaged and sent out under a different name. They don't to even even change there musical style much either. They are all individually better that the sum total of the combined so what the point, other than some bigger pay days I suppose.

Of course shouting "troll" when somebody dares to make a critical comment could be regarded as trolling.

For my money the Full English are a refreshing and imaginative group that bring their many talents and styles together to make something exciting and different. But we are all different and if they don't float your boat Shrewsbury has plenty of other good stuff on offer. One of last year's delights was lots of artists at Sidmouth festival I hadn't heard before and were amazing. Too many to mention (except the wonderful Lucy Wise) but this is the reason I will be going again this year and trying new artists rather than relying on those I already know.

For me the problem Shrewsbury has, is that it has almost
become a victim of its own success. By that I mean it has become so big that their are only a few UK artists and bands with big enough to headline, hence the same few names crop time and again. Cambridge FF is clearly aware of this and pull in as many big names from the US and overseas as they can, Shrewsbury needs to do the same, in order to have a guest list commensurate with its size and position in the festival calendar.

i am going to shrewsbury again this year and hoping that some of the names i have not heard of turn up good as the same old names don't inspire me much. last year was good - barnstar, james riley and a couple of others. actually, i think i'm getting a bit bored with folk and need something a bit different - world stuff, americana, bluegrass etc. and what happened to cajun? was really popular at festivals a few years back. even the beer wasn't much cop last year. maybe it's just me......

I agree with GUEST,achmelvich about the beer last year. I still enjoy the guest list and to be fair to Shrewsbury you can fill in feedback and ask for who you would like to see.

Artists sometimes hit the groove I have seen Edward II a few times Saw them at Butlins in November and they hit the groove perfectly and peformed a cracking set, all artists have that ability, I also saw an act at Shrewsbury who where brilliant, I saw them at another festival and thought they where very weak. Some you win some you don't

We hope:-

Blackie & the Rodeo Kings
Madison Violet
JP Hoe
Molotov Jukebox
Lenny Podolak & Matt Gordon
Cara Luft

will provide some diversion from the same old..same old.

and there will be a new company providing the beer this year.

and there will be a few tricks too.

We keep trying but you can't please everyone.

All worth a try Alan, but hardly headline material. I tend to agree with GUEST achmelvich, would like to see more musical styles, Gypsy Jazz, Trad Jazz, Cajun, Blues, Tex Mex, even Retro Pop. Southall pulled off a master stroke a couple of years ago with Jools Holland and his Rhythm and Blues Orchestra.

Mr Happy is right if you don't like it, don't go, and I probably won't.

I've been going since the first year and I think this year's line up looks really interesting - I like the mix of UK and US artists with a smattering of European stuff over the years - more European / Middle Eastern / African would float my boat even more :-)

I didn't notice any problem with the beer last year - hope the new company will provide the same variety and Enville Ginger and Salopian Lemon Dream are musts for my partner and I respectively!!
