Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: MMario Date: 19 Nov 99 - 04:44 PM what about 11/21? 11/23? 11/25? 11/27? |

Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: lloyd61 Date: 19 Nov 99 - 04:59 PM Good Point, but 11/21 has an EVEN number in it, this is the last date for 1000 years that does not have an even date in it. Why are we even concerned? I need to get a life. |

Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: Tony Burns Date: 19 Nov 99 - 05:29 PM More than 1000 years isn't it? I think Jan 1 3111 is the next odd day. Feb 2 2000 is the next all even day. First one since Aug 8 888. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: lloyd61 Date: 19 Nov 99 - 05:36 PM Jan 1 3111 You right! I wonder what life will be like in 01/01/3111. Do we need to worry about Y3K? (Tony, You need to get a life too.) |

Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: emily rain Date: 19 Nov 99 - 05:37 PM zero is considered neither odd nor even. therefore the next all even date is feb 2, 2222. i have a life, she says defensively. i'm just taking a break from it. hmmph. |

Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: Bert Date: 19 Nov 99 - 06:20 PM How odd! |

Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: katlaughing Date: 19 Nov 99 - 08:15 PM If you figure it according to numerology, it comes out to the even number of 4, which is the number of foundation, steadfastness, security, stability; seems to auger well for the new millenium, even though it really is a year away. It is also the number which signifies Mother Earth, may it definitely bode well for Her! Hey, ya'll, we have lives; rich and full from being at the 'Cat, right?! |

Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: Gary T Date: 19 Nov 99 - 09:36 PM Emily, I believe you'll find that zero is even. It's true that it's neither positive nor negative, but it is an integer, and when divided by 2 it yields an integer, therefore passing the test for an even number as I understand it. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: Date: 19 Nov 99 - 10:08 PM Zero also follows the odd/even pattern. Plus one is odd, minus one is odd, therefore zero must be even. |

Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: Jon Freeman Date: 19 Nov 99 - 10:18 PM Can anybody explain the logic behind the mm/dd/yy date system? I can see our (UK) dd/mm/yy i.e. starting at the smallest unit and moving to the largest or even the reverse, yy/mm/dd but mm/dd/yy seems illogcal to me. Jon |

Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: catspaw49 Date: 19 Nov 99 - 10:35 PM The last odd date I had was September 3, 1969 when I took out the daughter of a Pakistani Dung Merchant. We went horseback riding but I finally left her at the stable where she was having a long phone conversation with her Dad about the possibilities of buying Coldstream Farms, Calumet, and Keeneland for obvious reasons, I guess she'd never really seen what a horse could do, quantity wise. Her father was putting up a fight against it because her mother, a gypsy fortuneteller had seen a vision of the future which her old man had bought off on. It seems he was going to take his wife's vision to heart and invest in Bullshit Futures from the Mudcat Cafe Forum. Of course I had never heard of it back then (Was Max even born?), but the conversation was getting drawn out and I saw little chance of scoring, so I split. I heard later her father committed suicide after mistakenly investing in Shinola. Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: Gary T Date: 19 Nov 99 - 11:57 PM Well, Jon, there's some logic in the American date system, but in my opinion it pales in comparison to the European system. Here in the U.S., it is much more common in everyday speech to say "June fifteenth" than to say "the fifteenth of June" (two less words to say, more efficient). Then, when dates are written with numbers, consistency is maintained by representing that by "6/15" (or 06/15). When the year is mentioned, it is added to the end in either case--"June fifteenth, nineteen ninety-nine", or "6/15/99". Personally, I prefer written dates to be in the more logical day/month/year order. To avoid misunderstanding, I write them as "10 Jun 99". I also always use 2 digits for the day , so September third would be "03 Sep 99". But most of my fellow Americans have always seen and used the 6/15/99 method, except in the military. It's the norm here in almost all situations, and I'm sure it will be for a long time. That's tradition for you. |

Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: lloyd61 Date: 20 Nov 99 - 12:15 AM Why did I ever start this, and how do I stop it? Sorry about the "life" comment, did not mean to hurt anyone. I went to the health club tonight, and guess what, the desk clerk said "did you know thay to days date............". I can't get away from this thing! |

Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: Jon Freeman Date: 20 Nov 99 - 12:19 AM Garry, thanks for the explaination. Sidetraking further, we in the UK must have been responsble for some of the most illogical systems going - why 12 inches make a foot, 3 feet a yard... is it 1760 yards in a mile? Then there are chains, furlongs etc. somewhere in the middle... And then there are weights, volumes etc. Which leads me to another one - why is a US gallon smaller than a UK one? Jon |

Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: raredance Date: 20 Nov 99 - 12:51 AM This odd/even bit reminds me that the horse has an infinite number of legs. You see at the back end of the horse are two hind legs. At the front end are fore legs. Two legs plus fore legs equals six legs. Now six legs is a very odd number of legs for a horse. Mathematically the only number that is both odd and even is infinity. Ergo, the horse has an infinte number of legs. Even though I am sure to regret posting this, oddly enough I don't care. rich r |

Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: MudGuard Date: 20 Nov 99 - 05:39 AM rich r, you forget that a horse also has two left and two right legs apart from the four at the bottom. ;-) MudGuard |

Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: lloyd61 Date: 20 Nov 99 - 08:28 AM Remember the main part of a horse is not the legs. Lets stop this, before I comment about getting a life again. |

Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: catspaw49 Date: 20 Nov 99 - 08:58 AM I'm sorry lloyd, but there is no way to stop one of these things when it gets rolling. Go back and review the "Condom Thread" if you need to see exactly what I mean. Having a life is optional here at the 'Cat, as you know. I mean, you don't want to put a lot of us under that kind of pressure do you? Please check your copy of the "Mudcat By-Laws and Icons" and you will note that in section 7, paragraph 3, sub-paragraph C, it plainly states that life is not needed to participate. Consider that Cletus is often around and certainly doesn't have a life.....not to mention Kat and her Garden Faeries, or Jon Freeman for that matter. Spaw |

Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: lloyd61 Date: 20 Nov 99 - 12:11 PM I give up, I'm not comming back to this Thread. I'm going to the dance thread this evening, after all It's Satuday Night. |

Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: dick greenhaus Date: 20 Nov 99 - 12:36 PM For some reason, this puts me to mind of a time when I visited a friend in a hospital. THere were two arrows on the wall: one directing to rooms with even numbers, and t'other for uneven numbers. |

Subject: RE: BS: Last ODD Date for 1000 years From: catspaw49 Date: 20 Nov 99 - 12:55 PM I dunno Jon....I've been told there is, but it IS optional and I don't want to put any undue effort into acquiring one for no good reason. ....And lloyd, we WILL come after you. Again go to your Mudcat Manual and in the chapter titled "Pain in the Ass Laws That We Are Stuck With Because Catspaw Lives By Them," you will note section D is entirely devoted to the irritating trait of beating on dead horse carcasses. Once you have given me a seemingly innocuous piece of info that I find humorous, I will wear you out with it to the point of utter absurdity and frustration. Indeed, Cleigh O'Possum is testament to that very thing. But you need to ask Bert about his memory problems, Rick about the number of guitars he's had (and stolen from him) and "Implosive Pedro," or Big Mick and his "Spud Thong." Check with Peter T. about his Waylon Heron, bbc about David, Jeri the Clamfoot, Pansy Rue Bob WW Twidgett(MB), Kat's garden faeries, and innumerable others. I have even been able to continue this insufferable crappola off the threads and even by proxy when annap delivered the gift-wrapped spud to Mick at the Getaway. I can see a lot of times in your future postings lloyd where I might be suggesting you get a life. As for now, I guess I'll be wandering over to the dance thread for a "suggestion" or two. Spaw - and lloyd? Get a Life. |

I could never understand why you on the other side of the pond write your dates funny, I mean the logical way to write it is the nth day of the nth month, not the other way around..... LTS |
