My friend and fellow musician, Elijah Wald is doing a book on Dylan at Newport '65, and would like to talk to anyone who was there. He is also looking for the 1st edition of the Pete Seeger HOW TO PLAY THE 5 STRING BANJO. If someone out there in 'Catland has a 1st (or 2nd, before it was published by Oak)edition. Would they please check to see if Pete transcribed the old ballad EAST VIRGINIA? Elijah can be reached at elijah@elijahwald.com. Thanks

Mark Ross

Mark, I have a 3rd edition. It wasn't an Oak publication. I've e-mailed Elijah just in case it might help him out, even if it's not exactly what he's looking for.

Thanks Jeri. I have the 3rd edition also. He just needs to know if Pete transcRibed EAST VIRGINIA in the earlier edition.

I didn't know what specific information he was looking for, just that it was something that would be in a pre-Oak version of the book.
He thanked me even though I couldn't help. Nice guy.
