Subject: RE: hansel and gretel From: GUEST,Grishka Date: 16 May 14 - 11:06 AM It is a variant of a folk song from early 19th century, definitely in the PD. See Ingeborg. A translation may have its own copyright protection, though. The opera features a number of such children's folk songs, meant to be recognized by the audience. Genuine folk songs in operas whose musical style is inspired by Wagner? Many scholars find that strange. However, Wagner himself was an admirer of folk traditions, and included self-composed "folk" songs, dances, and hunt calls in his own operas. |
Subject: hansel and gretel From: GUEST,candomusic? Date: 16 May 14 - 09:12 AM I remember a song-dance from when I was in Grade 3, eons ago. "Brother come and dance with me." I found it in Humperdinck's opera and I know he died in the early 1900s. Can't figure out how to find if its in the public domain. Anyone know? |
