I like lots I read on mudcat and that is American so it all compliments everything and anything musical

D.I.D. was devised by its original presenter, Roy Plomley, for the BBC in the early 1940s. I think it's probably the longest-running music-related radio show in British history.

I wonder who started the idea of Desert Island Discs. For many years, the now-defunct Tower Records had a Desert Island Discs list in its monthly Pulse Magazine. Tower is probably the most famous thing ever to come out of Sacramento, California - and now it's gone.
Wikipedia says Desert island Discs was first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 1942. Russ Solomon founded Tower Records in Sacramento in 1960, so I guess that answers my question. The Brits win.

I was highly delighted to have one of my songs chosen on the show by Proffesor Mary Beard of Cambridge Univ. It's surprising the buzz that something totally unexpected like this can give.

Its been available for a few years now. I particularly like searching to see who else concurs with my favourite things.

I was however rather dismayed to note that David Cameron chose a couple of my best loved songs.

I would like to bring members attention to some fantastic Desert Island Discs in the BBC Archive that are now freely available as podcasts.

BBC Desert Island Discs Archive 1940's to Present Day

You will find some tremendous interviews with a great many musicians (folk, country, pop, classical, etc..), and other popular people in life, going back several decades. Whilst the muisc choices are not complete (because of copyright issues), the intervews give great insight into so many lives and what was happening at the time.

It's a great way to pass away 30-40 minutes when relaxing.
