Subject: RE: Llantrisant FC has moved! From: Mr Red Date: 18 Jun 14 - 04:24 PM Such is life - here in Gloucestershire there are many lost causes going under due to cuts. But as I always say, if it is your bank account and your hard earned cash, you would reign in the expenses and look closely at who you were generous to. Times is tough and London doesn't know what all the fuss is about. House prices? Schmisches. Let's buy second homes in the Cotswolds and commute weekends. Mick I will alter the phone numbers. & the club that no longer runs. Gower & Pontardawe are too far away for me to cover. Post codes are visible if you hover over the county, and you get the map if you click that. Using the geographical search allows for distance from chosen town, "how soon", Post Code & OS grid ref in two formats. But not all at the same time. And folk near Pontyclun knows about the Bristol Channel & River Severn |
Subject: RE: Llantrisant FC has moved! From: GUEST,Dai Webb Date: 18 Jun 14 - 08:53 AM Tremendous news from Llantrisant Folk Club, when all is doom and gloom from the county borough of Rhondda Cynon Taff, following Tory chancellor Osborne's savage and disgusting cuts across the whole of Wales. The spin doctors and the BBC (the Government's tame mouthpiece) might have you believe that the recession is over, but it's only just beginning. In Rhondda Cynon Taff (Llantrisant Folk Club's borough), libraries, leisure centres, OAPs' day centres and swimming pools are closing and the borough looks likely to be plunged in the dark by switching off half the street lights; the jewel in the crown, Pontypridd's Muni Arts Centre, has been axed. Cardiff City Council is considering selling St David's Hall (home of the go-ahead Roots Unearthed series) and The New Theatre, and the Night Out grants (local organisations' lifeline for musical events) have ended. In Neath Port Talbot, Hollywood actor Michael Sheen is campaigning against the closure of the Youth Acting Workshop, which has transformed young actors' lives. Osborne's war on Wales is making a cultural desert of the whole country - not that he would care... |

Subject: RE: Llantrisant FC has moved! From: bubblyrat Date: 31 May 14 - 10:14 AM Hello Llantrisant Folk Club ! It is a long time since I ( Roger ,guitar-player and former regular at Miskin - I worked in the kitchen, and was always looking after the fire in the chapel, and was a friend of Angela Ben-Gur !) saw many of you, although I have seen Patti & Ned, as I live in Tewkesbury now, near Upton. I nearly died last year, after falling ill at "Bunkfest" with cellulitis ( it nearly ate one leg )and acute kidney infection ! but I am much better now ( after a month on dialysis and gallons of antibiotics ) . Perhaps I shall manage to get down to Wales one day ; who knows ?? I miss you all , even if it's not mutual !! Roger Vaughan Mills |

Subject: RE: Llantrisant FC has moved! From: GUEST,Mick Tems (heb cwci) Date: 30 May 14 - 11:58 AM Olion Byw this Wednesday (June 4) at Pontyclun Institute Athletic Club - a must-see! Lucy Rivers (fiddle and voice) and Dan Lawrence (mandolin and fluid guitar) reinvent Welsh tradition; their name translates as Living Traces. Llantrisant FC celebrated the move to The Ath with an amazing night in the lounge bar; at least 27 singers and musicians did one song/spot, and nobody was left out. At least 35 people were at The Ath on Wednesday - brilliant! |

Subject: RE: Llantrisant FC has moved! From: RoyH (Burl) Date: 22 May 14 - 12:37 PM This seems like a really good move, no less than I would expect from the enterprisisng people who run this club. I look forward to turning up there fairly soon to sing a couple and make up for my last guest appearance at the old place, when I delivered what I would call the worst performanceof my whole career. Good luck in the new home, and Bravo to you for gaining disabled entrance. |
Subject: RE: Llantrisant FC has moved! From: GUEST,David Jones Date: 22 May 14 - 10:00 AM Why does the Mudcat fairy insist on eating cookies? Perhaps she doesn't know the difference. Anyway, four of mine have disappeared. I used to go to Llantrisant Folk Club and I really enjoyed such an array of local and non-local talent. But a man can only take so much hassle. When I had had enough of the awful stairs, the landlord's rudeness, his questionable beer, his illegal late-night smoking, his refusal to serve water to artists and responsible drivers and his arrogance in making the folk club members having to feel their way across the darkened car park, I stopped going. There are a few ex-Folk Club fans in the Ath Club who feel the same way. So I welcome the folk club's decision to move to the Ath Club. I will be there! |
Subject: RE: Llantrisant FC has moved! From: GUEST,Tom Robinson Date: 22 May 14 - 07:00 AM Well done, Llantrisant. You have made your move to a welcoming atmosphere where easy access just isn't a problem. Would that the rest of Tredegar House Folk Festival committee felt the same way! |
Subject: Llantrisant FC has moved! From: GUEST,Mick Tems (heb cwci) Date: 22 May 14 - 06:31 AM Llantrisant Folk Club has moved - only 400 yards to Pontyclun Institute Athletic Club in Castan Road CF72 9EH. The Athletic Club has a spacious car park with two spaces for "blue card" badge holders and easy accessibility, a welcoming atmosphere and delicious real ale; turn right at the Club's main entrance, and the next door is the comfortable lounge bar - that's where you will find us! We made the move in the shadow the all-pervading recession; funds are very tight, and the Arts Council of Wales has tightened up its rules on accessibility. None of us are getting any younger, and the steep and dangerous stairs were an worrying obstacle. Our thoughts go out to our friend, who was an energetic Welsh dancer before he contracted MS; he loves the Club, but he can't negotiate up the steps in a wheelchair. Our move will show to the Arts Council that they can still fund venues with perfect accessibility, providing everyone with differing access issues the right to enjoy folk music. Take a look at Our website for an exciting programme, which lasts until 2015 - and here's to our relationship with the Athletic Club; may we ever prosper! |
