We are trying to get hold of the lyrics to the song "Land of Green Ginger" . The song we are looking for is about Hull.
We were also wondering if it has been recorded anywhere.
We can remember the chorus contained the words" In the land of green ginger where oak apples fall.
Can anyone help.

For what it's worth, there is a play set in Hull called The Land of Green Ginger by Alan Plater, filmed for television about 1973, which begins with 'The North Country Maid" by The Watersons.

The song which Paul Davenport posted above (which, if the oak apples bit is de rigueur, is not the song Ian seeks) is called "Faithless Maria" and was written by the English music hall performer Harry Clifton ca. 1866. There are a couple of threads on it elsewhere on Mudcat, in particular, this one

in which I posted both the lyrics and the melody (ABC and MIDI), which Michael Heaney copied out from the original sheet music stored in the Bodleian Library expressly so they could be posted on this site.

Hi Ian,
I have a vague recollection of coming across a song about Land of Green Ginger fairly recently which presents the possibility that it might be one of Chris Rowe and Ian Clarke's or if more recent then the group Beggar's Bridge have been writing local material. Last time I looked there were no trees down LOGG.

I have known of the song for twenty years. We were told it was written by someone I think from Hull. We were told a that time   he had died a few years before.

I can remember receiving about 1970 a promotional cassette from a Hull based group "Green ginger" which I think had a song on it called The Land of Green Ginger. Can't find it though.
