Reputable sellers for OTR/early music?

I'm looking for sites akin to Bear Family, where I can find complete box sets/album reissues of Old-time Music. I have purchased nearly the entire output for Juneberry 78s, but would much rather prefer legal-CDs where possible... aside, are the Juneberry rips from shellac or Document disc? I located a copy of Fiddlin' John Carson's JOHN'S TRIP TO BOSTON, which was unissued AND peculiarly not on his Document reissues - anyone know why it's not even mentioned in the footnotes? Confused me ever since I found out about it, that it's not even acknowledged, as other unissued releases are?

I'm looking for WWII-era music releases akin to the Glenn Miller box set I inquired about here previously. I came across Tomahawk Films, which offers a large selection of Nazi German music, but am interested in any other labels that reissue wartime era music. Similarly, I am also seeking old-time radio in as-complete-as-possible reissues - I DON'T want the mp3 issues I see for sale online, unless it's the only way to gain access to the material. I did come across the Old-Time Radio Researchers, which helps a little for files.

In addition to radio shows, I am also in search of radio broadcasts of live music (1920s -40s), again as whole as possible - I want complete runs, unedited chatter in between songs, and if possible, liner notes - anything to help recreate the realism of an era. Wartime propaganda would also be of interest - I've seen compilations of Axis Sally, Lord Haw Haw and Tokyo Rose, but these were burnt copies. The V-Discs would also be very-much appreciated by my grandfather (1942 - 1949). In order to compile that collection, I think I'll need a discography. I've discovered V Disc Daddy which helps, and I knew of an MP3 seller, but his site appears to be gone now.


In terms of reissues for acoustic-era music, I would like labels similar to Archeophone Records (already a member :)) or Marston Records (would love some of the material, but he only does limited-editions at collector-prices).

Music should be accessible to everyone who wants to experience it, regardless of price. I apologize if anything I request sounds rather blunt - I erased the original post and lost all my initial typing.

Lastly, I also like video footage - would enjoy seeing newsreels issued on DVD, 1900s - onward. I came across International Historic Films, so that's a start. Looking for classic, 1900s - 1950s animation on disc, as well as TV shows. I know of Shout! Factory and TV Shows on DVD, so I might have that base covered.

Acoustic-era music (1880s - 1920s)

Classic TV shows on disc...TSOD may be the only website I need.

Music from the 1920s - 1940s, and onward, I suppose..anything cultural.

Newsreel footage, wartime footage, as lengthy as possible (I have a few WII box sets I watch with my bedridden father, who has dementia and absolutely LOATHES TV vs. DVD due to the commercials, and I don't want to risk redundancy). Documentaries okay, I just want to be immersed in the footage.

Old-Time/hillbilly music, 1920s - 1940s

Old-time Radio, golden age, 1930s - 1950s, and also the 1970s revival, I suppose.

Radio broadcasts, 20s,- 40s. I realize anything prior to the 30s is rare.

I search eBay- occasionally I find gems on offer.

Approach long-established radio stations. I found a few at a thrift store an found out that a local station was clearing some of their shelves.

Hundreds of OTR (old time radio) sites have tens of thousand shows. Seek and ye shall find - for free.

www.britishpathe.com has a hundred year span of newsreels.

The Library of Congress has an enormous collection. Much bigger than just Rounder.

Half-Price books in Texas and other areas has tons of old LPs and older and are beginning to catalog them for online searches. I'd suggest cultivating a list of used record stores and start searching there.

Also, I've noticed that some of the used book sites (like Bookfinder) come up with results if you put the artist and album (or at least just the artist) in the search form. You might also want to try tweaking ABEBooks and see if they turn up results.

You might want to look up the British Pathe newsreel archive. There's probably something relevant to you in there somewhere (it's enormous).

You could also ask on the Association for Recorded Sound Discussion List

Its run by the LOC and has lots of professional and amateur sound recordists, collectors and archivists.

Hmmm...thank you all for these sources. I'm most interested in finding things already on disc or online - being disabled, I have neither the room nor the physical capability to store and constantly-handle heavy stacks of shellac or vinyl, so I stick to CD albums and hope that the remastering is satisfactory.

Very intrigued by the Pathe and the ARSC leads, much obliged for them.
