Subject: Lyr/Chord Req: Do You Want to Dance (Tom Paxton) From: GUEST Date: 01 Jun 14 - 12:20 AM I wonder if anybody remember an old LP of Tom Paxton called "Saturday Night". It contains some Tom Paxton compositions that are not available anywhere else. And I can't find the lyrics to these songs on internet as well. I'm looking for the lyrics and chords to one of them called "Do You Want to Dance", which goes, "I found myself a fool, laughing loudly, speak inanely... It's the agony of asking, do you want to dance?" A big thanks to anybody willing to help. |

Subject: RE: Chord Req: Do You Want to Dance (Tom Paxton) From: Jason Xion Wang Date: 02 Jun 14 - 08:04 AM I have the LP but my English is not good enough to transcribe the lyrics by ear... Anyway, a direct mp3 link to the song here. There are still a bunch of Paxton lyrics not available on mudcat - or anywhere else on the Internet. |
Subject: Tom Paxton's Saturday Night LP From: Jason Xion Wang Date: 03 Jun 14 - 11:23 PM The entire LP can be found on YouTube here. Track Listing: 1. Cindy's Cryin' 2. Do You Want to Dance 3. Jones Boy 4. There Goes the Mountain 5. Good King Buzz 6. The Last Thing on My Mind 7. What a Friend You Are 8. Never No Love 9. Angie 10. Not Tonight, Marie 11. King of the Cat Cafe 12. Saturday Night Tracks 2, 3, 5, 8 and 11 can't be heard on any other album, and the lyrics to those five songs can't be found anywhere on the Internet. I was trying to transcribe them by ear, sadly my English is not good enough! |
Subject: Lyr Req: Hand Me Down My Jogging Shoes (T Paxton) From: GUEST Date: 06 Jun 14 - 01:55 AM I'm looking for the lyrics to another song by Tom Paxton. This page has the lyrics to its first two verses, but it's clearly missing the last verse where the singer was snagged into the "jogging herd". I believe a video of Tom doing it can be found on YouTube. |
Subject: Lyr Add: Do You Want to Dance (Tom Paxton) From: Jason Xion Wang Date: 06 Jun 14 - 03:32 PM OK, as a non-native speaker, this is my first attempt to transcribe the lyrics to a song by ear... Do You Want to Dance (Tom Paxton) I find myself a fool, I laugh too loudly, speak inanely I strive to seem so cool, so self-persist, I feel manly All the hours I spend examining my poor reflection To a childish end - a simple glance in my direction But what if you should see me as the hopeless mess I am Afraid of even trying as I must confess I am Afraid of your reaction if I dare to take the chance It's the agony of asking, "Do you - do you want to dance?" To my friends I boast, "If I'm no lover, may God strike me" What I need the most is just a hint that you might like me But what if you should see me as the hopeless mess I am Afraid of even trying as I must confess I am Afraid of your reaction if I dare to take the chance It's the agony of asking, "Do you - do you want to dance?" From album "Saturday Night", 1976 I can't guarantee that every word I heard is exactly what Tom sang, but this is what I hear, and it makes sense... Not sure about the chords though, maybe G-C-D-G would work. Jason |
