Is anyone going? I am hoping to if I can scrape up the money...my second cousins live not too far away and they will be there but staying in town...if anyone knows any very inexpensive places to stay..dorms or whatever..air b&b..they might need a motel because they have an adult daughter with special needs but I could just meet them at the fest..it was great fun the first and only time I went...I know Seamus Kennedy will be there which is the secret reason I am going...mg

Black 47 is playing there....and Andy Irvine...and Gaelic Storm...and of course Seamus....it sounds like a great time....I would really love to catch Black 47 and Seamus....as Black 47 is calling it quits fall, and they never come out west....and Seamus....well he's too damn weird for Portland. ;)

I left town in 1970, right before all these "fests" happened. My brother did the books for a number of these events over the years. Wish I had a chance to attend just one.

See what you can find out from local people before spending money you can ill afford.

I attended Irish Fest about 25 years ago. I have good hearing, and I found that when close to a band, the sound was too loud. But if I moved away from the stage, the sound of other loud bands intruded, so that I was hearing two bands at once.

Another problem was that the main-stage bands turned their volume up so high, they interfered with smaller acts.

I have relatives in Milwaukee, and we talk about Irish Fest when visiting. I don't believe these problems have ever been solved.

One factor is that the festival is held right on the shore of Lake Michigan (take a sweater). The air is humid and heavy, and sound men don't compensate for its greater effectiveness in carrying sound.
