Still recovering from my triple (after 9 stents).

Hope you'll be back interfering with security scanners in no time.
Got to quite like being patted down at airports and department stores when they fitted me with a new hip
Good luck

Hope you get more encouragement from the medical staff than I did when I had the hip done.
As I was going to be incapacitated for some time, I decided to take another run at War and Peace, which I've never managed beyond about page 50.
A doctor attending me, saw the title, shook his head and said, "You have to be joking"
Every time he visited me he giggled.
Abandoned WaP after a couple of days and reverted to John Grisham.
Still not got further than page 50 - bastard!!

Seriously, get better. Give yourself enough time and rest to heal, but get the heck better!

Once you are out set yourself a steadily increasing target to walk every day.

After mine I counted the number of front gates that I walked past and did one more every day.

Re Jim Carroll's story: I took Hermann Broch's The Death of Virgil into hospital for scheduled surgery once. It's not quite as long as War and Peace but it's very densely written, tiny print in my copy, and ends with a single 120-page sentence as Virgil goes into his final lung haemorrhage.

I whizzed through it with hardly a pause. Recommended for that situation.

My brother had a NINE-way back in '96 and he's still fit as a fiddle -- a very cheap fiddle, with no pegs, crushed F hole...the works.

(Actually, he's served two terms on the town council, hunted a lot of deer, dumped a riding mower on himself twice, lost two runs for mayor, married off one kid and second this coming September, spoils three grandkids, and I can't remember what all. He's also nuts, but he was that before the surgery.)

Why didn't I think of this before? Dan... get yer ass on Amazon and order a copy of "Trout Magic" by Robert Traver. It's a wonderful book. Just what you need during recovery. I searched for it for a half hour so I could try to get my copy to you but finding anything in this mess I call my house is like looking for a needle in a hay field. Seriously, the book is a gem but trying to find my copy in this house is like trying to get trout to bite on bait in a warm south wind in late June and in July and August. Gramps used to laugh at us and say, "Nah. You young fellahs walk the brook. I'll stay home and cook beans and bread because that's what we'll be havin fer supper. Work up an appetite." Gramps knew what he was talkin about. The olddudes always do.

I hope each day finds you healing faster and stronger.

I found it! Bad news. It was in a cardboard box beside the corner of the basement with the crack in the concrete wall. 32 books are ruined with water damage. I am gutted at the loss of those books. Gotta call around for quotes to fix the water leakage. It doesn't leak much but it does leak enough to destroy a box of books which were on the floor over six years or so.

I hope today finds you better than yesterday... EVERYday.

Caught a big crappie on a #7 fly rod the other day, using a #64 black gnat I tied myself. Fought that fish for 18 straight hours, never once stopping for anything. Water level in reservoir fell 17 feet when I pulled it out, so I had to do catch and release. The crappie tossed me my limit in 30 pound salmon as a way of saying thanks.

So, we put to shore fer a boilup. Dan is about thigh deep in the lake and fishin. He takes a piss and the red devil is about a foot over the water while he holds the rod between his legs. Well, both of them, I guess but his legs are holding the fishing rod secure. A huge pike swims between his legs from behind, breaks water and nails the red devil lure and takes off. Dan is pissin all over, including on himself. He grabs the fishing rod and reels in the pike and whips it back on shore about 20 feet in the woods. The air was blue. He marched back into the woods and, well, the pike didn't make it... not even to the BBQ. Raven meat.

I got pics of that day... somewhere. Sigh.

Why do you laugh at a true tale? Would you laugh if I told you about the trout I caught -- 32 pound Cutthroat. Naturally I wanted to keep it, but I was a good boy and turned it loose again. It was so grateful that all the rest of that Summer all I'd have to do is show up at the Ole Fishin' Spot and that trout would not only show me where the other fish were AND indicate what they were biting on, but would sometimes get so exasperated with me that it would just flip a couple nice sized ones on shore for me. Never exceeded the fishing regs limits, either (all you can catch plus one).

Okay, I shan't tell you more about my life in The West. Actually, the fishing is lousy, what you keep tastes like mud, and everything glows in the dark from the radiation. If you do go fishing you'll probably return broke because bandits will have taken everything you own (ever walk through sagebrush and stuff stark naked while dodging Girl Scouts out collecting plant specimens for a merit badge?) Actually, the fish never develop beyond the fertilized egg stage, so they're too small to deal with. The sun beats down on your fruitless fishing until you're driving four feet into the volcanic sand the cover the entire West and eventually a cow will come and poop on your head.

froggy... hehehee.

A float plane went down while I was in Churchill Falls, Labrador. I was talking to the divers who recovered the bodies and one said he was scared shitless because there were dead lake trout on the bottom at various stages of decay (being slowly eaten) that were bigger than him. True or false? I don't know. The conversation was in the bar late on a Friday night.

Yes... 'the' bar. Not a big town. But great fishing. The town is built around a hydro dam and the dam watershed is vast with many sub-structure dams on various rivers. And more blackflies than you can swallow if you breath through your mouth.

Hello Dan!....I had a quad bi-pass a little less than two years ago. On the sixth day they released me, but first I had to have a 'briefing' from the cardiologist. Here's the short version...Though they had lost me, the doctor said my 'recovery was nothing short of miraculous, I (he)had never seen anything like it'...later in the meeting, he also said he had heard my music on YouTube, and said that, 'there's a lot of healing in that music'....on my subsequent 5 week visit, I brought them a stack of CD's, and gave them to him and the attending staff(I actually remembered all their names) free, to use them to help other people. it is now being used in five hospitals in four states, and several cardiac therapy clinics...so, here's the link, I think you may have heard it before. You can use it in two ways that work....listen to it and drift off with it while resting...it has a calming effect...and when you do your 1/2 hour treadmill therapy, listen to it and it will make it easier to spend the half hour..as it takes you away...and IT WORKS.
Being as it's being working for a lot of people whom I don't know, why not for a FRIEND????
If you read the blurb below the video screen, it mentions the cardiac-therapy, and the hospitals.
ENJOY getting better!!!! ...it might be easier than you think!
'Bittersuite: Joy', Recorded 'LIVE'
It works!!...(according to 'them'..and I'm still ok...sneezing is a bitch, though....)

God keep you, and sending you thoughts and prayers..(non-religious, of course)

My brother had NINE (9) bypasses and two of the very minor ones blew out years later. But he's fine. I mean, apart from all the other stuff. And the fact that he's a sociopathic pyscho with delusions (he actually got himself elected to public office four (4) times, which proves it). But we've managed to control him by keeping him in an iron lung in a strait jacket. Of course, we have to use a funnel to feed him. And the leprosy, I probably didn't mention that, did I? Or the flesh-eating fungus infection, but we keep his face covered so he doesn't frighten people too much. Oh, yes, he's also quite flatulent.

But he had NINE bypasses and if he kinda survived so will you.

I never wanted to be a Seal,
Either Easter or in the circus;
I never wanted to an airborne ranger.
I never wanted a green beret
Or a sapper tab, or a sniper's danger.
I just wanted a simple life,
Away from wars and woes,
Where I could fish and drink my beer
And diddle myself with my toes.

My dear friends, thank you so ... I am pretty tough and doing very well so far ... I mostly get tired because of all the meds I have to take. I suspect several more will go away as I heal. Others I will take forever I guess but we all have something right. Not being able to lift over 10 lbs kinda stinks.   While I was home alone earlier I took off down to the lake just for an hour or so. Next thing, I catch a very large bass.   Nice fight but ouch cause I had to haul him up over the breakwall ..That was a bit more of a battle then I was ready for. After I let him go I said to the fish, lets call it a draw LOL

don't tell my Mrs. I catch hell

Love you

First you clean it, then filet it. I'd probably dredge the filets in seasoned flour -- a nice stone-ground wheat, although barley or oat might make a nice change, with Hungarian paprika, sea or kosher salt, freshly ground pepper, and perhaps a bit of ground dried lemon zest. A hot skillet with a tad of olive oil in it, toss in the hamburgers and throw the fish away.

Rap... kinda like my old man's recipe for roasted duck except he used chunks of 2X4s to roast the duck on. A deal of a hearty meal with lots of fibre and you could use left over 2X4 for toothpicks.

"For sometime now I've had this secret wish
Someone would send me a love letter on a fish

Just seem to go together
The sooner I get my fish wish
The better I would say
Someone could start out
To pour his heart out on a trout
I'd read and sigh and then I'd fry it my delish
Even when the weather's sunny
And it makes the mailbox smell real funny
Send me a love letter on a fish

"Oh I would love to hear from you on one condish
That when you pitch your woo you pitch it on a fish
It would give me such a thrill
To read I love you on each gill
Or darlin' on a marlin
Things profounder on a flounder
If you'd fain complete your pass
Don't be crass employ a bass
Yeah use that shad for a pad oh I insish
Ten million postcards on a school
Holy mackerel Batman cool
Send me a love letter on a fish

"Send me a love letter darlin
Send me a love letter on a fish
Show me that you like me
Tuna melt me smelt me pike me
Send me a love letter on a fish
If you think I'm super
Say it with a grouper
When you're mushy on a sushi I'm in blish
If you want a date
Get out your Papermate and
Decorate a skate
Send me a love letter on a fish"

Why, thank you for the commendation, B, which I rightfully deserve for a few hours each and every good day I put in. Right back atchya but all day every day. Yer one a the good ones.

Right. Back to the task at hand.

It's half past six! Drop yer pricks!
Hands off yer cocks and on with yer socks!

The rest of that cadence gets worse so I'll stop there and just say, "Mornin, Dan."

Perhaps I should add that I was never in uniform. Came from a rather military family and actually was accepted by RMC but a strange thing happened just before my picture was to appear in the newspaper as one of three chosen in The Maritimes when I was 18. I said, "Dad. I don't wanna go to Royal Military College." He whipped the car to the curb and parked. "Why not?!" "Four years in a school with only guys? NO pussy?" He cocked his head, nodded and drove on. I was so relieved that standing up to him regardless of the fear had paid off. Mind you, I had my hand on the door handle the whole time.

Sending love, Dan....and the diabetes thing, be sure to also take good care of your feet, rub cream/lotion into them night and day, as our feet don't sweat, so we don't get that moisture thing kicking in, so the skin can get very dry. (((XXX)))

Oh..and apparently, having a stomach sleeve op can actually cure diabetes, so they're starting to discover, but I'd not put yourself through that too! ;0)

Sorry to hear about the setback, Dan. Hope it's temporary.

Quote from the first site I read... "Although the mainstay treatments of type 2 diabetes include pharmacologic therapy and lifestyle modifications, having adequate glycemic control is difficult to achieve in most obese type 2 diabetic patients, with about 52% of American diabetics actually achieving an A1C goal of 7.0%. Previous studies have shown that procedures like bariatric surgery have produced type 2 diabetes remission in morbidly obese patients. Other studies have also verified the benefits of surgical procedures on type 2 diabetics. However, a majority of the published literature that supports bariatric surgery and diabetes remission have only short and medium term follow-up. Currently there are very few long term follow-up studies, showing remission rates greater than 5 years. The purpose of this study was to study the long-term remission rates following bariatric surgery."

Do your best, but just remember that diabetes hasn't read any of the "rules" for handling diabetes. I can do everything right and get a bad glucose test result. If you catch that huge muskie, it will be amidst some Jello sea, as green as the envy of all the other fishermen in here who constantly cast their bait and debait (and some are masters at baiting, stroke victims or not) on some frail thread or another, occasionally with a hook or two left over from their songwriting efforts. Anyway, Oldfisherdude, don't let the bass turds get you down or the soprano ones, for that matter!.........

Dan, you haven't lived until you have dined on a meal made with half the water and twice the Jello. Use that to stuff the baked muskie and boom et voila, poisson du jour. Granted, Escoffier might have suggested improvements, but we're big idea guys for whom details are things to be ignored. Save time. Make the muskie from yellowish Jello and you'll never go back. Pfffut to Auguste. BM

I once did a line of Jello.After about 20 Minutes,everything went green!

I looked like the Jolly Green Giant and Robin Hood.
They took me to the hospital, where they shot me full of anchovie juice.I ain't never been the same since!
