Lyrics from www.monalisa.com:

THE BUTCHER BOY

Daughter
Mama dear, come over here
And see who's looking in my window.
It's the butcher boy and oh,
He's got a bundle in his hand.
tell me why he winks his eye
Whenever he goes by my window.

Mother
Daughter, daughter, he's in love and you're in love
And love is grand.

Butcher Boy
Hey, Marie!
I gotta da pork chop!
Hey, Marie!
I gotta da lamb chop!
Hey, Marie!
Marie!
'Ya wanta marry me?

Daughter
The butcher boy, the butcher boy
I wanna marry the butcher boy.

(Chorus and daughter)
Oh, Ma-Ma!
Oh, get that man for me!
Oh, Ma-ma!
How happy I will be!
Tra-la-la
And cheery-beery be!
Oh, if I'm gonna marry,
It's the butcher boy for me!

We also hear from the Baker boy, another object of Marie's affection:

"Lazy Mary" and "Oh, Momma,", I think, were titles of versions without double-entendres popular in the 1930s.
I will post a couple if I find the lyrics.

The song is in Sicilian, thus seemed to have escaped the hands of media censors.

Dean Martin (Dino Paul Crocetti) was American, but was raised with his parents dialect, Abruzzese. I couldn't find a translation I trusted of his version, but I assume he copied Prima or the original Citarella recording.

Hello, Q. Now I know the source of that tune which has been following me around since I was a little girl.

Here's a URL for Dean Martin singing it on YouTube. (No wonder he sticks with Italian.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vRd8_0oOUB4

My mother used to sing this with these words:

Lazy Mary, will you get up, will you get up?
as soon as y-ou are able.
Lazy Mary, will you get up?
We need the sheets for the table.

There's the Moon in the Middle of the Sea

There's a moon in the middle of the sea.
Mother, I must get married-

My daughter. who should I get for you?

Mother, I leave it up to you.

If I get you the barber
He will come and he will go
But he'll always hold his razor in his hands-
If he likes the idea,
He'll razor you, Oh, my daughter.

Oh, Mamma, pisce fritte baccata! (2x)

My daughter, who should I get for you?
Mother, I'll leave it up to you.
(Repeated between each verse)

If I give you the carpenter
He will come and he will go.
But he'll always hold his plane in his hands-
If he likes the idea
He'll plane you, oh, my daughter.

Oh, Momma, etc.,

If I give you the shoemaker
He will come and he will go.
But he'll always hold his hammer in his hands
If he likes the idea
He'll hammer you, oh, my daughter.

Oh, Momma, etc.

If I give you the farmer
He will come and he will go.
But he'll always hold his plough in his hands
If he likes the idea
He'll plough you, oh, my daughter.

Oh, Momma, etc.

If I give you the butcher
He will come and he will go.
But he'll always hold his sausage in his hands..
If he likes the idea,
He'll sausage you, oh, my daughter.

Oh, Momma, etc.

If I give you the fisherman
He will come and he will go.
But he'll always hold his fish in his hands-
If he likes the idea,
He'll fish you, oh, my daughter.

Oh, Momma, etc.

If I give you the gardener
He will come and he will go.
But he'll always hold his cucumber in his hands-
If he likes the idea,
he'll cucumber you, oh, my daughter.

No proper thread for this earworm sung by Dean Martin, Louie Prima (his version here) and others.
A partial without translation in thread 3771.
