Subject: RE: Tune Req: Hnk Snow's Guitar Break for I'm Movin on From: GUEST,Stim Date: 08 Jun 14 - 02:37 AM Before you can play that solo, there are two things you have to be able to do. First is a right hand thing, that shuffle rhythm, which works for me as a down stroke with an up snap, kind of "Baaduh/baaduh/baaduh/baaduh" The second is a left hand thing--you have to be able to play a walking bass line out of an open D chord, using a hammer-on the fourth fret(on both the D and G strings) with your pinky. (if you can't do this already, it will take a bit of repetition, and may be a little uncomfortable) After you've got that stuff, you can start to work out the solo, which is really just a variant of the old standard walking bass line. |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Hnk Snow's Guitar Break for I'm Movin on From: GUEST,Cpt. Colin Date: 07 Jun 14 - 07:39 PM It's all based around the simple chord shapes for the song- D,G and A of course. My suggestion is that you download the audio from the record from youtube (it's a much clearer sound than the videos) then play back the solo at a slow speed but the same pitch using Best Practice which is free software, easily findable. If you make sure that your guitar is at exactly the same pitch this should make it much easier for you to figure out what's going on, especially if you combine it with close observation of his fingers on the the video. You can also play back at the same pitch but a lower speed using Windows Media Player by the way, using play/playspeed/slow. If still struggling maybe ask for help on the Chet Atkins forum http://www.misterguitar.us/forum/search.php?search_id=active_topics- you will need to sign up to the Chetboard- there's some very helpful people on there. Good luck, don't give up, and I'm sure you'll crack it with perseverence. |

Subject: RE: Tune Req: Hnk Snow's Guitar Break for I'm Movin on From: Mark Ross Date: 06 Jun 14 - 01:21 AM Hank used a lot of down strokes, only alternating up and down when absolutely necessary. This gave his solos a lot of punch. Mark Ross |
Subject: RE: Tune Req: Hnk Snow's Guitar Break for I'm Movin on From: pdq Date: 05 Jun 14 - 08:35 PM Both Hank Snow and Doc Watson often played consecutive strings at the same pitch, as with 2nd string fretted at fith fret and first string open. Not sure that applies to the solo you are talking about, but it is a neat trick that makes it sound like you are doing some fast picking. |
Subject: Tune Req: Hnk Snow's Guitar Break for I'm Movin on From: HiHo_Silver Date: 05 Jun 14 - 08:22 PM I am unable to learn the guitar break as Hank Snow played it in I'm movin On. I have listened to the recording and watched it on YouTube many times but cannot determine how it is played. I would appreciate someone posting the music or guitar tab for this and/or explaining how it is played. you could also PM me and/or email me. Thanks for any info. |
