Subject: Lyr Add: E. Tenn. & W. Virg. Ballads- Cambiaire From: Richie Date: 20 Jun 14 - 07:57 PM Hi, I've been putting a few new collections on my site. One book I've started putting on is Eastern Tennessee and Western Virginia Mountain Ballads- Cambiaire, 1934: http://www.bluegrassmessengers.com/eastern-tennessee--western-virginia-mtn-ballads.aspx The ballads and songs are here: http://www.bluegrassmessengers.com/section-i--songs-and-ballads--cambiaire-1934.aspx This is a good collection. Celestin Pierre Cambiaire born at St. Affrique, France, December 23, 1880. I don't know much about him. Anyone know about this collection and where he was? Not sure when it will be completely done. "1913 Celestine Pierre Cambiaire, "East Tennessee and Western Virginia Mountain Ballads." pp ix-xi" That is from http://archive.today/uXrj |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: E. Tenn. & W. Virg. Ballads- Cambiaire From: Richie Date: 21 Jun 14 - 03:34 PM Hi, There is a brief couple of paragraphs on the Melungeons. I see that date. So how do you think 1913 is accurate? Richie |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: E. Tenn. & W. Virg. Ballads- Cambiaire From: GUEST,# Date: 21 Jun 14 - 04:46 PM I don't know that I do, Richie. The Ballad Index at http://www.csufresno.edu/folklore/BalladIndexBib.html tentatively dates it at 1933. I was thinking yesterday that maybe the 1934 which seems to be accepted at most sites is a "second edition" although not knowing anything about the author other than he's French and was born in 1880, I'll need to dig further. |
Subject: RE: Lyr Add: E. Tenn. & W. Virg. Ballads- Cambiaire From: GUEST,# Date: 21 Jun 14 - 05:24 PM The 1913 date seems to be a screw-up. My apologies for wasting your time. |
