Subject: BS: Blocking Facebook Threads From: Ebbie Date: 21 Jun 14 - 08:57 PM I am on Facebook although not terribly active. Currently someone has let Tea Party, Right Wing political articles and posts spread across the pages I can see. There is also one specific person I would like to block; I suspect she is the one doing it. Is there any way that I can rid myself of them? To give you an idea of the kind of thing they post, Chuck Norris and Ted Nugent are among their heroes. |
Subject: RE: BS: Blocking Facebook Threads From: GUEST,rumanci Date: 21 Jun 14 - 10:32 PM if you "hover" over the name of the specific person you get a drop down menu and you can choose the option to stop notifications from that individual appearing on your wall or unfriend them altogether. You can also make sure nobody can post to your wall directly but you do that from your own page by going to the cog wheel (top right) and changing your security settings. rum |
Subject: RE: BS: Blocking Facebook Threads From: Ebbie Date: 21 Jun 14 - 11:29 PM Thanks, rumanci. I have made a little progress. Hovering over this person's name let me 'unfriend' her. However, the articles don't have specific addresses on them. The best I have down with them so far is to block them. We'll see if that takes care of the problem. My notion is that I am aware that there is a lot of stupidity in the world - and some of it is mine - but I don't need it in my face. |
Subject: RE: BS: Blocking Facebook Threads From: GUEST,Lizzie Cornish 1 Date: 22 Jun 14 - 04:05 AM Ebbie, go to their page, look just to the right of 'Message' at the top of the page, there will be three blue dots. Press these, then go to 'Report/Block', press this too and a new window will open. In there you'll be given some options, press 'block' and then, that's it, they can't see your page, you can't see theirs, in any way at all. You can unblock them at any time, by going to your 'settings', but once you ublock them you have to wait 48 hours before you can re-block them again, should you change your mind. |
Subject: RE: BS: Blocking Facebook Threads From: Stilly River Sage Date: 22 Jun 14 - 11:17 AM If they are posting objectionable articles in their wall that appears in your feed, if you go to that upper right corner and mouse over the dropdown arrow you'll see several choices, including blocking the party whose post they are forwarding. So if your friend ABC123 is sharing posts from XYZ987, you can block XYZ987 without blocking your friend. When your friend shares more from XYZ987 it won't appear. I've done that with a couple of my oldest friends from my home town. We have a lot in common, but politics isn't one of them. This lets me keep them in view for the other topics we enjoy. I assume they also block my political shares. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Blocking Facebook Threads From: Ebbie Date: 22 Jun 14 - 12:23 PM Thanks, everybody! So far it appears to have worked (hard to prove a negative). There is a great vacuum on my page- wonderful. I do 'allow' some conservative viewpoints on one of my email pages simply because I want to be aware of their talking points but there is no way I will tolerate being inundated. |
Subject: RE: BS: Blocking Facebook Threads From: GUEST Date: 22 Jun 14 - 01:27 PM Just contact the CIA. They designed and run Faceboot. Tell them your feelings are hurt. Someone's being objectionable. Whatever. I'm sure they'll get right on it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Blocking Facebook Threads From: Ebbie Date: 22 Jun 14 - 02:50 PM Thank you, Guest! That hadn't occurred to me. |
Subject: RE: BS: Blocking Facebook Threads From: gnu Date: 22 Jun 14 - 03:10 PM Obvious GUEST is in the CIA and can't use a handle. >;-) |
Subject: RE: BS: Blocking Facebook Threads From: Jeri Date: 22 Jun 14 - 04:14 PM One paranoid guest, and that's what you guys choose to focus on? I was really hoping it would be ignored, but that doesn't happen here. |
Subject: RE: BS: Blocking Facebook Threads From: Ebbie Date: 22 Jun 14 - 05:19 PM Hmmmm You couldn't ignore it either, Jeri? :) |
Subject: RE: BS: Blocking Facebook Threads From: Greg F. Date: 22 Jun 14 - 05:46 PM In light of the recent revelations about the NSA data collection, what makes you think that Guest is paranoid? Ther ARE out to getcha! |
Subject: RE: BS: Blocking Facebook Threads From: Jeri Date: 22 Jun 14 - 06:31 PM Ebbie, yeah, I could ignore it. I didn't ignore you and gnu. |

Subject: RE: BS: Blocking Facebook Threads From: Ebbie Date: 23 Jun 14 - 04:32 PM From the link: "However, if you find a post somewhere where the option doesn't appear, just click the timestamp to open a direct link to the post, click the drop down menu, and select "Hide All from [SITE]." What's the "timestamp"? Thanks, Stilly. (Another one- this one called 'Conservative Tribune' showed up today. I muddled around and it disappeared. Not sure what I did.) |
Subject: RE: BS: Blocking Facebook Threads From: Stilly River Sage Date: 23 Jun 14 - 11:34 PM You'll see a light text that tells you something was put up 12 minutes ago or 2 hours ago, etc. Click on that and you see the item by itself, and you can then choose to block the source of the message. Subject: RE: BS: Blocking Facebook Threads From: Ebbie Date: 03 Jul 14 - 03:43 PM Yeah. First thing you know, they will be inventing carriages that don't need horses- and where will we be then? |
Subject: RE: BS: Blocking Facebook Threads From: Stilly River Sage Date: 03 Jul 14 - 11:27 PM I was willing to let bygones be bygones, but the party who had been deleted so many times in this thread just doesn't get it. Participate in the music threads, contribute useful information in BS. That's all we ask. |
