Here's a link to the record by Wilmoth Houdini

And a correction- in verse three, it's "Booker T.", not "publicity".

This is today's transcription. Houdini compares his use of publicity in America with that of Marcus Garvey in achieving his status. Super fun to listen to. As usual, there are one or two gaps, but I'm really starting to get the hang of this. Enjoy!

African Love Call - Wilmoth Houdini

Come from far on the coast of Africa
I'm a millionaire
Come from far on the coast of Africa
I'm a millionaire
I brought ruby, diamonds, and gold
Love and riches to be unfold
Hip, hip, hoorah for the descent of Africa
Universally

Now let me tell you something, my learneded(sic) friends
What is belong to the Americans, give it to them
In entering New York City
I saw the Statue of Liberty
The Stars and Stripes laying at her side
Uncle Sam' flag, I cannot deny
In this land of liberty where I achieved publicity
Universally

Some people say give me Booker T.
But I say give me Marcus Garvey
They say Marcus Garvey was looking for war,
so I ask them what publicity did before
They said he gave his Negro nation high-class education
and that was Booker T's chief ambition
But His Honor Marcus Garvey start a fight for liberty
Universally

Garvey made o'rocks, he come by the wave
And ?came the silvery in light again?
Have you heard of the viper's jaw
No one in the world respects Garvey's Law
For he stand here as a conflicting wave
To trample and moralize the brave
Hip, Hip, Hoorah for Garvey, the descent of Africa
Universally
