Subject: RE: English Country Music Weekend From: Surreysinger Date: 01 Jul 14 - 07:16 PM If we're mentioning the dancers, don't forget that Nina Hansell got up and danced with Toby more than once, and that all three of them danced together on the Sunday afternoon. As usual a stunningly good fun weekend. And Tom - "mere" singers, eh? LOL Thanks to the pub team - despite being worked hard and run ragged they continued providing fantastic service and a smile ... and it was lovely to see one of the girls dancing behind the bar to the music at one point. And of course thanks to Keith Kendrick (aka Derby Ram) , Sylvia Needham, Mo Bradshaw and the other organisers for this year and last for serving up a goodly mix. Here's to next year, wherever it turns out to be. |
Subject: RE: English Country Music Weekend From: doc.tom Date: 01 Jul 14 - 03:50 PM We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - and us mere singers! |
Subject: RE: English Country Music Weekend From: GUEST,fiddlingpea Date: 01 Jul 14 - 01:29 PM The clog dancer was Toby Bennett, currently based in London. Toby gave an exciting display of Westmorland step clog and some sam sherry steps. He was accompanied by another accomplished step dancer Simon Harmer. We're lucky enough to have these guys (and more) get up and dance to our tunes in sessions down on the South coast. phil |

Subject: RE: English Country Music Weekend From: Alan Day Date: 01 Jul 14 - 09:03 AM I was only there for the Saturday this year.I went to the very first ECMW years ago and it's a very friendly ,fun weekend run by enthusiasts. There was some talk of Oxford or Devon for next years one.Wherever it is I shall go just to see all my friends again. Stowmarket is also a great weekend of music run by Katie and John Howson and I shall probably be there again this year ,even though I have moved from Suffolk back to Sussex.Well worth the trip. Al |
Subject: English Country Music Weekend From: GUEST Date: 01 Jul 14 - 08:24 AM recovering from a great all weekend session of music and some beer and must congratulate all the organisers and the pub for selling her at£2.50 a pint and a pretty decent lunch or dinner for £5. Such a great change from those that try and rip[ off the captive audience!! A great session form Polkaworks - that really rocked and some great musicians and a fab cumbrian clog dancer that Alistair Anderson brought down with him to represent the northern bit of English music, which as ever was great to listen to , even if some of it requires a good level of dexterity to play properly!! I hoopoe someone takes on the mantle next year and keeps on the good work. I reckon that events like this and the east Anglian Music Trust Music Day at Stowmarket at the end August are better than many a folk festival and show that the tradition is still going strong and long may it continue!! |
