If Paul R. is still here or wanders past, I poked around as to whether you be related to Judi.

familysearch.org lists a Jehudith Resnick born 1944, deceased. (They don't display entries for living people.) If you create an entry for yourself and your parents/grandparents, if a couple of days their computer may connect you up to vast hordes of ancestors which might include your singer.

Another site, ancestry.com lists a couple of candidates, one of them was in HS in 1962 in Hartford.

To Thomas Stern,
Is Judi's Resnicks one vinyl album now available on CD?
If it is, how do I get the CD?

By the looks of the tribute album, it seems most of the songs are not in the folk genre.

Been awhile since posting here. Is there any new information out there about the tribute album for Judi Resnick and what singers & songs are on this tribute album?
Also, are there any other albums or just the one album that was released, or even an album of other singers that she appeared on?

I searched on Judy Resnik, the astronaut, (who was also Judith A. and also died at 36) and I came across the grave photo of a woman named Judith A. Resnick, who died on the day I was born. I was born at Beth Israel Med and she is apparently at Beth Israel Cemetery. And the first and last posts on this thread, five years apart, were both on my half-birthday. I'd like to know more about her.

Good morning Karen...
Did you know Judi? If so I'd like to talk if it's okay with you...
For me, never having known her, the obvious sadness of her suicide has been mitigated somewhat by the knowledge that she was tired, but still amazingly hopeful for what lay ahead of her.
As for the tribute album, as I mentioned above, it is mostly a collection of tracks recorded by Judi during her time in NYC, more pop than folk. Sealed new copies (from 1982) still are available on vinyl only (I have a few extra myself) but again, I hope to someday compile everything I can find of Judi's work in a digital format....
Please contact me on the facebook page if you'd like to keep up with ongoing news... or email directly...

To Guest Galad:

I didn't know that Judi had taken her own life. I thought she had died from cancer. It is so sad either way - she was so young.

Do you know how I could get the tribute album? I do have her album, "You've Heard My Voice" LP but would like to find the tribute album. Are the friends who sing on it folk singers?
Is it only released on LP or has it been released on a CD?

Thank you,
Karen

by W. Schorr/A. Podell
(popularized by Glenn Yarbrough)

You've heard my voice
You've heard my voice
And you know my name

If you've ever kissed in a summers rain
If you've slept where the winds and the snows have lain
If you've ever heard a lonely train
Then you've heard my voice
And you know my name

If you've bowed your head when you're filled with pride
If you've learned of death when a bird has died
If you've tasted tears when a child has cried
Then you've heard my voice
And you know my name

Well now you've heard my voice in the winds of spring
Seen my face where the roses cling
I am the touch that the warm rains bring
I make my home in the heart of everything
In the drivin' rain of a summer squall
When the summer's gone and the petals fall
When the day is done and the night birds call
Then you've heard my voice
And you know my name

Well now you've heard my voice in the winds of spring
Seen my face where the roses cling
I am the touch that the warm rains bring
I make my home in the heart of everything
In the drivin' rain of a summer squall
When the summer's gone and the petals fall
When the day is done and the night birds call
Then you've heard my voice
And you know my name

You know my name
You know my name
You know my name

Judi was born in 1944, grew up in Conneecticut& graduated from high school in 1962.
"You've Heard My Voice" was recorded on 16 May 1964 and she moved briefly to NYC soon thereafter, then to Waltham MA where she studied for a Theatre Arts degree at Brandeis University, graduating in 1970.

Moving back to NYC she pursued an acting career with little success until taking her own life in January 1981 at the age of 36.

The tribute album was compiled by NYC friends after her death, consisting primarily of "non-folkie" tracks from her 10 years in NYC, along with a handful from the concert album, another handful likely recorded in the mid-60s.

She spelled her name with an "i" briefly...went back to Judy or Judith once she gave up actively singing in public.

There has not been a re-release of her concert (though I'll be working on that) and other than the abovementioned recordings I've yet to uncover any further music made by Judi...

As to age, one source suggests she was just out of high school when she recorded the album in 1992, meaning she was either 17 or 18.

That would suggest she was only 37 or 38 when she died of cancer.

I'm a little confused now about the tribute LP released in 1982(2 LPs)
If it is a tribute album wouldn't it be other singers on the album doing the tribute for Judi Resnick? However, the post indicates Judi on vocals & guitar & doesn't list who the singers are doing the tribute to Judi.
Is this album available from any record company and was it ever released on a CD? Or only LP?
Anyone know how old she was when she passed away?

can anyone explain the change from JUDI to JUDY on the TRIBUTE album?
Perhaps this is a typo in the cataloging of that double lp?

Also note that the following site purports to have recordings of her at a couple of concerts broadcast by WTIC (???)

http://www.goldenage-wtic.org/hootenanny.html

April 18, 1964 - Live from Guilford High School, Guilford, Connecticut
featuring The Guardsmen, Judi Resnick, The Grand Old 26 String Band, and The Tradewinds

May 2, 1964 - Live from St. Joseph College, West Hartford, Connecticut
featuring Mike Ogden, The Hallmark Trio, Judi Resnick, and The South County Singers
(Note: This show is not complete.)

Best wishes, Thomas.

I was listening on YouTube to the songs that Judi Resnick sang.
Someone had replied to some questions about Judi on one of the songs and he mentioned that "Judi Resnick passed away while she was still young from (cancer ?)"
Person goes on to say that there was a tribute album released in 1982 in her memory.
(However, no other details given about the tribute album.)

To Guest Roger,

I don't believe that Judi Resnick ever covered that song. It was recorded by Judy Henske as pdq mentioned.
It was also recorded by female singer named Joan Toliver in 1964 on Kapp Records.

And yes, Judy Henske was extremely tall! Not small at all. :-)

When you mention "High Flying Bird" you may be thinking of Judy Henske.

"She was one of those small women with a large voice." ~ R in B

Not Judy Henske. I believe Judy Henske was almost 6'3" and used to beat-up Dave Van Ronk.

Judi was a singer during the mid-'60's. I'm not at home, but somewhere in my record collection is Judi Resnick LP with her "hit" song, "High Flyin' Bird:.

Although she did ballads, I think her background was blues and jazz. If I find her LP, I can give you some more information. She was one of those small women with a large voice.

I do have that LP "You've Heard My Voice" by Judi Resnick. Great LP, but I don't know what became of her or if ever had any other records that were released.
There were so many female folk singers at that time who were in the mode of Joan Baez & Judy Collins. Most never made it big and had one, maybe two albums that were released to never be heard of again - in the music business anyway.

I have another album by a female American folk singer named June Bugg. Album came out around the early or mid-60's and it is a good album too. Yes, June Bugg is her name or that is the name on the cover of the album with her picture. Another girl that seemingly disappeared from music after that one album.

Surfing around in cyberspace I came across a download for an LP from 1962 called "You've Heard Me Sing" by a Judy Resnick. She's very much in the Judy Collins or Joan Baez mode of the time.

I've never heard of Judi Resnick before and can't seem to find any information about her online. My curiosity is heightened by the fact that we share the same last name.

Does anyone here have any info about her?
