Subject: What's on near Lyme Regis? From: GUEST Date: 11 Jul 14 - 11:48 AM I'm holydaying with family in Lyme Regis - 25 July to 1 August. The usual search engines reveal no folk music in the area that week. Even the Sadfolk listing has a neatly precise gap apart from week-long events at Halsway. Can anyone suggest anything? SJ |

Subject: RE: What's on near Lyme Regis? From: GUEST,SteveT Date: 12 Jul 14 - 04:44 AM I don't know about Lyme Regis but there are usually "fringe" things going on in Sidmouth, about 1/2 hour away, for a few days before the festival officially starts (on the 1st August). |
Subject: RE: What's on near Lyme Regis? From: Mr Red Date: 12 Jul 14 - 05:08 AM I don't list in Lyme Regis (per se) but have a look at this Mr Red's folk events in a radius of 40 Km of Beer Jurrasic Folk in Beer is 1st/3rd Wed I'm afraid. You can do a lot worse than leaving via Sidmouth. Anchor, Anchor upstairs, Swan, Radway, Volunteer for seessions/Singarounds on the Fri And if you are dancing try the car park at the Anchor 12pm. If you see a flash of red say hello. |
Subject: RE: What's on near Lyme Regis? From: sleepyjon Date: 13 Jul 14 - 10:04 AM Thanks, Mr Red - looks like I've cleverly picked a blind spot in both the calender and the geography! Your Friday plan might be a good one, though - I've never done Sidmouth! - Tried it once (1970-ish as I recall) - raining sideways, deserted streets, and no visible sign of a festival, so I carried on West to the Scillies. Could be time for another try!. Which of the places you list has a Middle Bar (of which I've heard!)? SJ |
Subject: RE: What's on near Lyme Regis? From: SunrayFC Date: 13 Jul 14 - 11:44 PM This is a good listing for the area. Always best to check before travelling still. href="http://www.folkmusicsomerset.co.uk/wessex_acoustic_calendar.php">http://www.folkmusicsomerset.co.uk/wessex_acoustic_calendar.php |
Subject: RE: What's on near Lyme Regis? From: Mr Red Date: 14 Jul 14 - 04:30 AM Anchor Middle Bar singers are upstairs but still claim to be Middle Bar. Centre of town. All these things depend on who has arrived yet. But the music sessions are usually in full swing when I arrive - 12pm Fri for the ceilidh in the Anchor Car Park. The Volunteer is also a singers' session. Opposite Fish Bicycles (about 5 mins walk from town centre. If you are driving it is best to find free on-road parking in one of the streets opposite the Volunteer or go down to the town centre and look for the Rugby Club (or maybe the Cricket Club though I never parked in the Cricket Club) Charges apply. There is an official car park up near the Connaught Gardens, well worth a visit for the Connaught Tea Rooms - you'll thank me (portion control problems - prepare for big portions) MAP Rugby club (entrance via Coburg Rd) Volunteer MAP Anchor MAP Clock Tower Tea Rooms MAP http://www.folkmusicsomerset.co.uk/wessex_acoustic_calendar.php corrected from above |
Subject: RE: What's on near Lyme Regis? From: sleepyjon Date: 15 Jul 14 - 08:31 AM Thanks again Mr Red - could't be more complete. SJ |
Subject: RE: What's on near Lyme Regis? From: Mr Red Date: 15 Jul 14 - 06:54 PM There are sessions in the Cricket Club - probably music but I never got there at the right time. Best of luck. Did I forget to mention the music sessions in the Bedford? Right on the sea front, towards the west, on a corner. Always busy so I expect it will be running at 12pm on the Fri. |
Subject: RE: What's on near Lyme Regis? From: Herga Kitty Date: 16 Jul 14 - 07:54 AM The Middle Bar singers will be in the upstairs room of the Anchor from Thursday onwards - probably from lunchtime if there are enough people - and singing without instruments. There will probably be musicians playing downstairs if you come on Friday! Kitty |
Subject: RE: What's on near Lyme Regis? From: sleepyjon Date: 24 Jul 14 - 02:02 PM Thanks again all - I'm heading on down to Lyme, but with a tent in case of unscheduled stopover in Sidmouth. I aim to discover the Middle Bar on Friday lunchtime - you'll recognise me - I'll be the one with white hair and beard - Simples! (Doh!) SJ |
Subject: RE: What's on near Lyme Regis? From: GUEST,Psychomorris Date: 25 Jul 14 - 05:19 AM SJ If seeking a place to camp at Sidmouth try the Thorn golfing ranges near the Donkey Sanctaury.
